bolinas has developed a repuatation for being an isolationist, elitist community of hippie "posers". True or false, the rep has developed over the past decade. think hard about it, bolinas. you might want to stop tearing down the highway one signs- doesn't help the rep much...

I don't know what, but this story hits a particular nerve with me...

I lived on the East Coast for a while and always despised the elite country club culture. I like to think that Northern Californians are better than that, but whenever I get to Marin (and West Marin) I think that the same county club set have merely migrated west and traded their golf shirts and Mercedes Benz for tye dye and a Prius with vanity plates. What's the diff really? Both cultures end up with the same white smugness. Cultures only merge when someone of Hispanic decent makes your organic veggie burritos or your soy latte (sub-slave culture, hmmm?).

The Nazis were elite. They also tried to get rid of people unlike themselves. I know this sounds harsh and probably something you'd hear from Sean Hannity - but sometimes people get so far to the left that they end up with the a-holes on the right.

Good luck Bolinas. Peace.

Let's see, San Francisco, where tolerance includes letting people defecate and shoot up in the street, is somehow less left leaning than West Marin where we dont tolerate that? Berkeley where people scowl at everyone they meet is somehow more loving. Fix your own broken world before you try to say what is wrong with ours. Beating up people we dont like, and then saying they had it comming, is not a West Marin value, it is a national one. San Francisco is a sewer.

You're hardly worth responding to, but I guess I'm bored...I am not talking about left and right, I am talking about right and wrong. Kids get crazy. They get drunk and they do stupid things. It's the community response that is irritating. The guys was/is apparently not all there. I doubt that a sane person chooses to live on the streets, but that doesn't mean they deserve to get beat down by a gang and stabbed several times.

I actually feel sorry for the young people involved as well because apparently the Bolinas adults have raised them to think that people that are different (black, homeless, poor) are less than human. If you're such a peace loving community why not help the guy get the help that he needs?

As for what you do or don't "tolerate" that's just scary dude. There are some famous fascists that probably share your same core values.

God save the militant hippie Bolinase!
