There is no gas - well, some but it is taken as soon as it arrives. Exxon on Leicester got a tanker and within a few minutes the line was back to Dollar General and the station parking lot was packed. Word got out that Shell in Biltmore is getting a tanker at 11:00 and cars were lined up waiting. Cops made everyone leave. Hot Spot on Leicester got gas and the line of cars went back down to Patton. It's getting worse, not better.
There is gas available. Yes, Asheville seems to be the hardest hit but there is gas in Asheville tonight (I saw it being pumped). There is more gas coming tomorrow. And more gas the next day. And more the next day. This entire situation has been a blip, NOT a crisis and its getting better. By a week from today, it will be forgotten.

Too many people get their panties all in a wad and start whining when something unpredictable (or sometimes very predictable) happens and it doesn't suit them. Then they turn a minor blip into a major crisis with their own trauma drama emotions. Its the "oh poor me" attitude.

America used to be filled with independent, self sufficient people who had an innovative spirit, created new options for themselves and saw the glass half full. Today, Americans whine and cry over the least little thing and focus on placing blame instead of on being self sufficient and innovative in their personal lives.

Breckenridge- thanks for the positive information. I hope you're right about supply beginning to return by tomorrow.

As for people with their 'panties all in a wad', there are people out there who have no gas at all and can't get to work. It's scary to think about losing your income like that. I don't think it's whining. People are really struggling.

Just remember, everyone- we are all in the same boat. Don't be greedy- don't top off- leave some gas for the rest of us.

My employer has already sent an email out stating that "out of gas" will constitute an "unexcused" absence (3 of those and you're fired!)...
really understanding aren't they.
Get a bike, ride the bus, ride with a friend, ride your tractor, walk, siphon it out of your lawnmower, get creative. I'd fire you too if you used such a lame excuse.

I think it is unrealistic to expect people to walk 15 miles to work because they can't get gas. I hope things will get better in the next few days, but I don't think they will. I know people who can't get to work tomorrow because of no gas. I think it's a serious situation.

Diane, you're welcome. But the news came from the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce, not me. Again, the statement from the Hendersonville Chamber (issued today) is this:

==========
Representatives from local gasoline distributors indicate that we should start seeing relief to the gas shortage by Wednesday. We encourage everyone to conserve whenever possible. Waiting to top off your tank will help make gas available to those without any.
The nature of the problem is a supply shortage from Texas pipelines due to Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. It typically takes two weeks to refill the pipeline, which was shut down in preparation for the hurricanes. Saturday, September 27th will mark two weeks since Hurricane Ike made landfall in the Gulf Coast. Henderson County stations should start to receive more shipments on Wednesday and improvements should continue until the supply line has stabilized.
Please bear in mind that the gas shortage is not the fault of the employees of the businesses that provide gasoline.

I drive 4 or 5 or sometimes 6 counties every week. I haven't had a problem finding gas and filling up when I have needed it, even this past week. Even today. There are places with gas. And there will be more places with more gas tomorrow.

As for other alternatives, there are many. People can put on their thinking caps and be innovative instead of whine. Here's just a few options:
- Demonstrate patience and maturity instead of trauma drama mentality
- Carpool with neighbors
- Carpool with family members
- Carpool with work associates
- Take the bus
- Walk
- Ride a bike
- Take a day of vacation
- Take a day of personal leave
- Talk to your boss (or client) about your gas situation and work out a solution bewteen you

Unforutnately, some of the people I've noticed who whine the most are those who don't even drive or those who are retired and don't need to drive to get to work.

If you don't have to go anywhere, stay at home. The people that need the gas the most are the one's who have to get to work or have fuel to work. I've heard of people waiting in line to top off their tanks or fill up huge containers to take home with them. That's messed up!!!

I think we should all pause for a moment and let our "government" and our Elected Officials who are supposed to be looking out for us know how much we appreciate the fine job they are doing screwing us without so much as a peck on the cheek.

I spent seven and a half hours in gas lines today and never got a drop. This is just the tip of the Iceberg. The FOOLS in Washington and Raleigh (both parties) are doing everything they can to make the U.S. into a third-world country, just to make a few more billion to stuff their sleazy pockets.

Thomas Jefferson said, "When a government becomes intolerable, it is the right and the duty of the people to OVERTHROW it.(A pretty big task, since the people do not get to decide the winner in the election) Violence, though tempting, is out of the question, and really does anyone in this country even care in comparison to say, "American Idol?"

At least you didn't say to siphon it out of someone else's vehicle. LOL.

That's because there are not thousands of idiots living there that ran out and bought up all the gas before the hurricane hit. Stop informing everyone where the gas is because they'll just make a desperate run for it like they've done here. I blame the gas shortage on the greedy little people of our lovely little city.
