For a town of what...6000 people...we now have a new Sergeant and two more part-time officers...we already have the new Chief, with 4 full-timers..
Looks like the new Chief is raising the budget..he is also asking for renovations on the Police Department. I would guess that will all the new officers, that they need more room. Maybe Gilmanton is becoming a 'high-crime' area? At least the old Chief kept a tighter reign on the budget...seems this one is going all out? Maybe I am just missing something here?

The Gilmanton police are out of control. We dont need a bigger budget so Officer Matt Currier can go four wheeling in a new SUV cruiser. He has been caught using the SUV for recreational four wheeling on duty. I think its time for a change in Gilmanton. Phil Obrien is for some reason allowing this jerk to have free run of the town. This jerk lies to bust people he does not get along with from high school and anyone else who has rubbed him wrong. You want to talk about another scam there overtime is a joke they bust people at the end of there shift on purpose to get more overtime. You used to be able to somewhat rely on police to be honest-not now of days.

The way it appears to me is that O'Brien doesn't want to put in the work now..which would explain why all the new officers. Overtime? The Gilmanton PD doesn't even run 24/7, does it? I do believe we may have been fooled by this new Chief. I know the people 'liked' him and wanted him in there..but, maybe he needs to learn 'how' to run a PD. I know that new Sergeant has received a few complaints. I beleive he is from Wolfeboro? I have met Currier and he seems ok to me..but, again I heard a lot of negative about him too. They should make the Chief an elected position. Maybe they should not have hired from the inside and the Chief go back to being a Sergeant..
I do know that there are some other needs in that town that do not include more $$ for a Police Department.

They should just fire all the Gilmanton Cops and give the sherrifs department extra funds to patrol gilmanton. The town would not need booking rooms and holding cells then because everything could be handled at the county jail. We dont need a big police force.

They lost one of their younger nicer officers a couple months ago. Wish that Chief would spend as much time getting this PD in order as he does 'playing' around..rumors are plentiful. I heard there was a lady there who has threatened to sue the town over his actions...again, just rumors..just what that Peyton Place needs more lawsuits coming from the taxpayers pockets.

Yes very he was one of the best ones there. Had a keen sence for common sence.I suppose its more difficult for an oficer to remain, if they arent happy.
We have gone now to a higher level,It used to be that you could wave to the ones you liked. etc. But now that would only raise suspicion.

Sorry to hear he left, All the good ones eventually move on, leaving a disrupted force.
Promotions should be on merit, not that somene left the force. If there is no one that has met the promotional challenge he or she should remain in their postion. C
Come to think of it, why do we need to have all high ranking individuals?

yeah that officer currier is a real winner he blocks snowmobile traffic to the main trail from sawyer lake. He likes to sit in front of his house and check everyones license that drives past his house. My guess is he must not like the noise so he is trying to hassle people to stop them from driving past his house to the main trail. Thats okay though just a another bad cop on the force.

Yes snowmobiles have been traveling through there for the last 40 years that Ive been here.Reciently a few years ago he attempted to stop them by using his lodgic that it was a town maint road. which it had never been untill He built.
Anyways the selectman gave the green light for that section to be ope for snowmobilers.
I have no clue why Gilmanton cant mind their own business. This is clearly the responsability of Fish and Game.
His attempts to also relocate the route to not go by his house fell through .
Apparently not enough pull in that section of town politics. LOL
As a mater of fact the 'case' that led to the attention from the selectman was when he stopped a local state trooper who ws riding (offduty).
Unless there were several complaints one can only opine that it is mis-use of power.Could be just trying to get it changed or closed by using his police power to harrass? food for thought

You people are ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, the conspiracy theories make me laugh almost as much as the spelling mistakes. The price of keeping a town safe in these days, unfortunately, is having a well staffed police department. I know Chief O'Brien, and he certainly does his share of work, including patrolling YOUR streets to keep them safe. I understand that it may not be a high crime area, but is that what has to happen for you to appreciate what Gilmanton is today? I also know Officer Currier, and the only complaints that I have heard about him are due to the fact that he is young. Unfortunately, its not just the under 30 population that has an authority problem anymore.

Well MR. BELMONTGUY Let me tell you a little something that I can spell I-D-I-O-T.Nobody likes a bad cop in the community. I never said anything bad about Chief Obrien but MATT CURRIER should be kicked right off the force A.S.A.P. I have proof of some shady stuff he has pulled and I have proof that He uses his badge as a tool to get back at people he has a issue with. Do not tell me how it is because I know. The other people in my community are fed up with the bull stuff he pulls. As for the spelling this is not a novel its a complaint.

Well Mr. Professional... I would say that you are definitely choosing the wrong forum for your complaint. I am sure that if you had (and I stress if) a valid complaint, then the Chief and/or selectmen would happily take it up and resolve it for you. If all you are interested in is whining about unsubstantiated (that means false) wrongdoing, then I guess whining on this board is a good outlet for you frustrations.

First of all Mr Professional as you call yourself, Officer Currier is a good cop. You people act like he just arrests anyone he wants to because he has a personal grudge against them. It doesn't work that way. Don't blame him for arresting people who are breaking the law. If you think cops should overlook offenses just because of the "good old boy" theory that used to work in small town politics a long time ago, you are mistaken!! The vast majority of Officer Curriers cases are found guilty in court so before you run your mouth about crap you know NOTHING about except what you hear on the street, check the court house, its all PUBLIC information. He has a dam good record for someone YOU claim uses his badge to stick it to people. Have a good day :)

Maybe but what you don't know is the reasons why the old Chief was fired. You should do a little investigation to the pornography rumor

You need to do a little investigation if you are going to compare the old Chief with the new. Maybe find the reason that the old Chief was fired. Hmmm, pornography sound an alarm?

Those who break the law to enforce it are no better then the people who break the law. Some of the police officers out on patrol do a good job and some dont. I am not alone in complaints about Matt Currier some people like him some people do not. Thankfully this is a free country and I can write whatever I want as long as its true. I respect your opinion BELMONT GUY/GIRL?. But I think Im going to keep on getting the word out so people who have been treated unfair will come forward and file the complaints.

In the know, I don't think you know anything. Now, your making misleading accusations of the previous Chief. I heard a lot of rumors too..everybody did. At least the former Chief has enough integrity to not retaliate by creating false rumors about anyone else. I just think this new Chief is feeding his ego with this PD growth and his display of power over the Town. The website used to say he was from Marlow, Keene, Pittsfield (??)..the former Chief seems to be the only one who hired him and gave him a chance. I wonder if the former Chief regrets being a nice guy. I hear the Gilmanton People like him; I see it from an outside view.

First off, I don't know who Belmont Girl is. Second, if you look at the top of this page, this is the BELMONT forum. I also admit, that I do know each and every Gilmanton officer, so there is nothing here that I am trying to hide.

Well, Alton mom, just check the minutes or speak to the selectmen and I'm sure you will find your answer. Maybe check with State Police on why he was fired too.
