You know- there's always a risk of injury in sports. Collar bones are easily broken - it's just a hazard. I'm sick of these knee-jerk reactions from the schools. These people who give of their time to work kids and then get treated like this. It's ridiculous. This is a pampered and entitled generation. Everyone is soft, easily offended, and unreasonable. Sorry the boy got hurt...but what kind of lesson is learning here? Man up, Dad.

One thing this article fails to mention is that the coach was a volunteer.

It's super easy to "fire" people who aren't even on the payroll.

Wrestling is a tough sport. If the kid's parents are going to run to the News Media every time their kid gets hurt, then that kid's practicing on the JV squad until he graduates regardless of what sport he plays.

He might as well pick up golf once that collar bone heals.

Scott Lee - wannabe Joe Paterno is just as guilty. He knew this guy was coaching and not an employee of the High School. He's equally at fault.

More ignorance from "Big Head" I see. An employee of the school should not leave children with one of his "buddies", even if he helps at the middle school. The issue is not just the injury. The issue is leaving kids with just anybody. Thats why the school system requires background checks on coaches and assistant coaches that are not teachers.
The adults got what they deserved. You probably never experienced any injuries in Band, so its going to be hard for you to understand.

What's next? Wrapping them in bubble wrap? It's a contact sport. Injuries happen. Would this have been a story 10-15 years ago?

Its one thing for a student to be injured competing in a sport, I have no problem with that. Its another to be injured by the coach. Was the coach in the same weight class? How would said coach like it it some other adult coach kicked the crap out of his 10 year old at football practice, requiring medical attention. The coach should have known better and should be able to use restraint. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about letting kids fight their own battles, I'm just saying make the battle a fair fight. If you're an adult, wrestling against a little kid, show some restraint. You are not wrestling someone your own size or weight. Ignorance is not excuse.

First off, Goodwin was coach at Belmont Middle, so therefore he was a paid employee of GCS. He was a two time state champion back in 2006 & 2007 in the 171 pound class. So it's not like it was some 40 year old, 300 pound Bubba thinking it's 1990 and he's Hulk Hogan wrasslin that kid. The kid went for a move and Goodwin countered it. He went for a roll and the kid landed wrong. Also, in wrestling practice, you wrestle everyone, no matter size or weight class. I guarantee if they questioned every wrestler on that team, every single one of them were glad to have someone with his experience assisting.

All these rednecks thinking their kids are gonna be Football stars. Wasting their childhood on all day Saturday football games where their kid gets to be in a few plays, blocks a couple of kids and never touches the ball because the coaches kids get the top spots. All of this so you can get your ticket onto the SP Football Team. WhoopDeeDoo! All of these years of family sacrifice for NADA! None of these kids make it to the big schools for Football. They are forced to take pitty scholarships to D2 schools of which they waste away. Ultimately, they drop out, move back to Belmont, Get a Blue Collar Time Warner Cable Lineman/Duke Energy pole climber job, gain 50lbs, settle down in a starter ($140k) neighborhood, marry their High School (used to be SP cheerleader) sweetheart who has also gained 50lbs. sporting bottle blond highlights and who has a part time job at the hair/nail salon and volunteers as the Cheer Coach for the Optimist Cheer program. They join the local Baptist Church, Dine at the Buffets on Sunday's and pop out 3 kids of their own, 2 Girls, One Boy - Daddy will be proud. I could go on but you see the vicious cycle keeps turning - Better known as Gaston County tradition.

Hello me.Meet the real me.You my friend will walk among greats!Good to see someone else nail the local reality.Congratulations!Well Done!My sons are on the Dental Team getting ready to score a big money touchdown.People are insane to think the schools actually want to teach their children when sports only distract from education. The sports could be implemented another way and could be regulated by non-education officials.
