Just came back from this place. Had read stuff on here about Backwoods and wanted something different so we gave it a shot. Wait staff was as friendly as you could ask for. Interior was odd. Did the space used to be a furniture store? Food was ok, not great. Kinda weird that the food is quasi-fancy but the decor is not. Don't think we will return. Hey, we gave it a shot. May have to try Mot's and see what that is about.

To each his own. I agree the decor is odd. He brought what he had from the old place - used to sell the furniture in the old place as well as food. He's a great chef, and good prices. I love it - just wish he took credit cards. LOVE the shrimp and grits!

i love mot's...but mostly because i like to support home-cooked meals that the ladies and the one gentleman make.

the food is good, but could be a little bit better?
either way, i keep going back and have yet to be disappointed.

I did want to try out backwoods but looking over the menu, i couldn't bring myself to pay those prices.
maybe one day when im rich?
[thats a joke]

Mot's is OK. I think for what you get, it's a little overpriced. I don't usually care for the tight quarters in there and if you go in the evening there's usually kids playing around in there. I stopped going. They are nice people - it's just nothing special. I can cook what they have - but I can't cook what Backwoods has.

i hear ya on that.
i usually go for lunch.
and i know one day i sat there for fooorrreeevvveerrr waiting on my food and then they forgot my slaw so the waitress was like, ill bring you some more and another waitress brought it out to the wrong table and wouldn't you know, some man said it was his. pfft. wasn't the waitresses fault but i was still upset i didn't get my slaw. haha

and then the last time i went, our waitress couldn't hear us and it seemed like she hadn't ever waitressed. i like the twin ladies, i guess. lol.

but yes, the food is nothing really special.

ill try backwoods one day if i can find something i like.

I wanted Mot's to be a great little dive, but we weren't impressed with the food. Actually prefer Dixie's Grill by the airport. The folks here were extremely friendly but we haven't been back.

Not impressed with the food? Are you serious or just from another planet? I ate there the other night. Pork chops, fried okra, corn bread and mac & cheese. What's not to like???? Prices are very reasonable and they even threw in free desert. People were amazingly friendly.

We went. Not bad. Surprisingly clean & spacious. The place has a good feel to it. Had the fish bits for an appetizer. Very good. Had fish cakes & chicken. We'll go back.

Backwoods is one of the best values in the area and the food is great. They will be moving soon to Mount Holly, much better location, be able to serve drinks and I am told you will be able to use credit cards.

Sorry to hear they are leaving Belmont.Their food is good but I probably won't go to MH. There was nothing stopping them from serving drinks and taking credit cards in Belmont. Where are they moving- what location? I thought they came to NB because they got a good deal on the rent?

They couldn't serve alcohol because they were outside the city limits.

That shopping center is in the city limits of Belmont. North Belmont IS in the city limits.

I stand corrected - according to Google maps the strip is not in the city but the limits surround it - odd.

If you knew the owner of those strip malls in North Belmont, Joe Roper, you wouldn't think it odd.

He's a really nice guy, but God broke the mold when he made Joe.

I don't know for certain if he stopped them from annexing his property, but I certainly wouldn't put it past him.

Belmont annexed the mill owned property in North Belmont because they desired to be part of Belmont and get water and sewer service to that area. At that time the mills owned the Belmont water plant and wanted to buy water from themselves through Belmont and not Mount Holly. By agreement with Belmont, Mount Holly can annex the rest of North Belmont if they so desire. By the same agreement Belmont is prohibited from annexing additional area in North Belmont.
