Sammy's isn't bad...but it definitely depends on the day and time as to whether or not it's too smoky! Ate there for lunch a week or two ago and it was fine. Time before that at night when it was more crowded I walked out smelling like an ashtray.
Overall, I'd have to say the service is good, and if you compare apples to apples; ie, comparing the service when the places are busy, the service and food turn around time is a little better at Sammy's than BF&B |

You are comparing apples & oranges. Sammys is great. Good food. Noisy. Fun atmosphere. Smoky The Old Stone is a dining out experience. Some people are out 4 to 5 days a week in Cook Out, Backyard, Steak & Shake, McDonnells & every buffee in Gaston County & they complain the Old Stone is too expensive. Compared to these places it is. |

I agree David it has good food, a bit noisy, but have not noticed the smoke but if it's smokey when we enter we will leave. I am glad we have great options in Belmont and thanks to the people that have attracted them. Not too long ago it was very hard to find a good place to eat, get coffee, or a great slice or cake or pastry in Belmont. Wonder if Belmont is looking at the latest smoking ban like Charlotte? |

Harvey, I was born and raised here and never had a hard time finding something good to eat. You just didn't know where to go or you have different tastes than most of the people in Belmont. You dudes should learn that if you have a good product the people like then you will be found. You don't even have to advertise. Matter of fact, if your a small business and you find that advertising is not increasing your product then guess what? In the south, "pushy" means you are up to something and cannot be trusted. |

Excluding televangelists? I don't think what you said has anything to do with why Old Stone is still open. It's still open because people with money will go to places that have a more "exclusive" feel, regardless of whether or not the food is any good - hence the popularity of most country club dining rooms. Old Stone will close when another "nice" restaurant opens somewhere in Belmont or down on South Point that blows them away with quality. Until then... |

1 Eat out much? You'll pay more than that "just for the steak" at Ruth's Chris, Morton's, or any other decent steak house. In fact, a "good steak" should start at around $35 with no side items. |

Thank you! I just didn't want to go there. Now they are going to say you are the elite rich.lol |

You can pay $35 for a steak if you want to, but I do not see the rationale. Its just a waste. You can go drop $500 on a bottle of wine if you want, I will just think you're foolish. A person not to be taken seriously.
I'll buy my own and could it exactly the way I want, cooking it is half the fun. To prepare your own food should be a meditative experience, it signifies how you view your world. |

as i said before any one who pays 35.00 for a steak by it,s self good or bad needs their head examined there are alot of places around who have great steaks under 20.00 16.00 for a chopped steak is beyond belief if anyone who goes to old stone thinks they are being elite then i,am affraid they need to look again because they are looking very stoooooopid paying those prices paying high prices for food doesn,t make you look elite it makes you look down right idiotic |

sortanew,
when you said in your post people with money go to old stone .. let me phrase it this way , you mean fools with credit cards are going down to old stone trying to look like people with money , but they are just your average moron who is in hock up to their asses with debt .. i don,t need to eat around fools like that . i knew the first time i saw a bunch of those fools going in their they looked like the kind of people who had to take a heloc out just to pay for their meal .. they,ll learn sooner or later when they,re loans double and they get kicked in the street and they have to dig thru a trash can to find something to eat , i will not feel sorry for them |

All I hear is Blah, Blah. Blah.. If you don't like someplace, don't go there.. How hard is that?? This place sucks, that place sucks.. You know what they say about opinions.. Talking trash on here is like flipping off the person in the car beside you.. Do you really think that you are accomplishing anything hiding behind a user name??

I do believe it costs as much, if not more, to go out 5 or 6 times a week to these greasy spoon joints because they are not expensive, than it does to go occasionally to the Old Stone. And a lot of people go to these places. They are always packed.

Quite possibly the dumbest post ever written! I can prepare a 12.00 Ribeye from Food Lion that would embarrass anyone at Old Stone, or Morton's. I live in Belmont and work in Chicago and Texas. Both offer much finer quality meats, and aren't over 20.00 in most cases. LaVecchia's Seafood in Charlotte is very over-priced, Nix Burgers and Brew is over-priced for burgers...and of course Old Stone (All three owned by the Lavecchia's). I think they're paying more for their locations, town restorations, and living quarters and it's reflective in their menu pricing. Three different places with the same symptom (pricing) is not a coincidence, rather a trend! I love all three, but it can't be denied. River Rat blows the doors off Old Stone any day..so does the Woodshed or Ranch House. |

Now Thy don't get personal you may hurt my feelings...:) I am no differnt than most other than I eat what is good for me now, no fried stuff much anymore. There were good places to eat back in the day but Fast foods I do not care for, the downfall of our kid's health, if not many of their parents. I too was born and raised here. At 51 I hope to live another 40 good years. I ate my share of Hardees, Jack Linberger's and Harold Stowes's fish (man it was good)just to name a few and had my orangeaid at Belmont drugs, in fact probably ate more than I can remeber at the Dime store where Skip's place is now. Whoops forget my Dad's favorite place (Eckerd's for coffee and jack jawing), that is after Bill James closed his Pharmacy on main. I just think that the food selection within three blocks of down town is better than it has every been. And better than any town west of the Catawba. I also believe that the new places fit in with the times even though we do not go very much due to budget and times restraints, plus helping 3 kids through college. We may go downtown twice to four times a month. Do I like everything that comes with that progress, no, but I would trade somethings for others if we can keep a small town flavor with good affordable restaurants and friendly people. |

I think this is a really good point...the small town flavor and people is what I loved about Belmont when my family was moving here. That's what's important, and what needs to be preserved and guarded... |
