I just refuse to obey unjust laws and the ACA is an unjust law there are many unjust laws signed by presidents from both parties. This law was created to control peoples lives and it will eventually, it just takes time. The law of unintended consequences will raise its ugly head like it has with so many others so beware what you wish for it will bite you.

LOL and I bet your still in your mothers basement, same place you have been all day long every day, posting on topix, terrified that the right will take away your ability to avoid getting a job.

Says who Neecer? The Rumor mill or did you read this on a Fright Wing website or blog? Or is this just another myth in a long list of myths already debunked by facts? Lets see your source on this one.
Check with your doctor's office and find out what insurance they accept and what they don't. Or call around to ANY doctor's office and find this out. I can tell you right now my doctor's office only accepts 4 of the Medicaid health plans (not including fee for service Medicaid) and only 10 of the many Medicare Health Plans(not including Medicare B), and they are actually part of a larger network - so this would be network wide. There is nothing that says a doctor's office must participate with any number of commercial insurance carriers (if they want to have privileges in a hospital, unless the hospital opts out of Medicare and Medicaid, they must participate with regular Medicare/Medicaid). Oh, and they can chose to NOT accept any new patients of a certain insurance, like Medicare and Medicaid. They are still participating, just not accepting new patients, not against the law.

It's not hard, you just actually have to get off your ass and do something besides hide behind a computer screen, little man.

So its late Friday evening your child gets ill you don't know whats wrong so what do you do go to the ER, you are working on your home and you cut yourself you need stitches what do you do go to the ER. There are many reasons people go to emergency rooms with or without insurance some of you seem to think that this law will end this. Sure I know some people go there for silly reasons a headache, sore throat, etc and other minor things that could wait but what if it is something more serious.
This law is going to be misinterpreted just as much as it was misrepresented by the biggest pusher Nancy Pelosi
And all of you who think your employer provided insurance is not going to change I feel sorry for you in your disillusion. Until the day we government and insurance companies out of health care industry (don't you love that its an industry) the costs will keep going up and people will still die. Beware the healthcare industrial complex, because that is what has been created in this era of fundamental transformation.
Shoeless, I'm not talking about that as I have used the ER for a sick child at 2am and a severe cut on my hand myself. I would rather use the urgent care myself, they can handle those things as well when the doctor's office isn't closed, but they are only open for so long as well.
What I'm talking about is those that won't be able to get into their doctor's office to actually see a doctor because of the number of patients or not being able to find a doctor that will accept your insurance. So we're back to sore throats, rash, headache, oh look a paper cut.

This last winter, my grand daughter was very ill. Only six months old. My daughter's pediatrician has Saturday hours and she called. They blew her off!! Sunday morning, I told her I was very concerned about pneumonia. My daughter took her to med center. Med center had her taken by ambulance to Helen DeVos Children's center. She was in ICU for 2 days with sever RSV. She tried to control costs by calling doctor, but it ended up costing more.

Sassy, I would have called that doctor's office, asked for the office manager and proceeded to chew that person a new one, and then found a new doctor's office. That is NOT acceptable. Especially ones that little during RSV season. We have been blessed with an office who will defer to urgent care/ER when they don't have xrays or or capabilities for certain injuries/illnesses, even during office hours/after hours clinic visit times.

I'm sorry your daughter was made to go through that by a nurse who simply didn't care enough to refer out or make room for her. I hope your grandbaby has made a full recovery! My youngest had RSV/pneumonia at 13 months and we had bouts of pneumonia ever 6 months for 5 years after that. I really do hope your grandbaby doesn't have to go through that as a consequence. Miserable especially when they are little!

Just to clear up any confusion. I'm not saying that anything will eliminate the use of the ER. There will ALWAYS be need for an Emergency Room/Urgent Care/Med Center. But to use it for the sniffles, or because you didn't want to wait for an appointment at your doctor's office is highly inappropriate, a waste of resources, and making it more difficult for the ER staff to take care of those who truly have an emergency. After coding ER for 9 years, I have seen more than my fair share of waste

Too bad!

To think of things as tragic as what Sassy went through will all just go away with Obamacare is just wishful thinking. There seems to be enough concern out there that stories like this will continue if not become more frequent. Just because your doctors office accepts your insurance plan now is no guarantee that they will continue to accept it next year. We just changed insurance providers where I work and guess what, my doctors office, who has taken care of me for the last 40+ years, does not accept the new plan.

Sassy, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

It happens all over the country, neecer. I worked for a doctor in North Carolina for a few years; a small practice in rural NC. The hospital was a 50 bed deal with a small ER. ER abuse was rampant (and it was mostly the Medicaid recipients doing it). Rather than come in for an appointment, they'd wait until 9 or 10 on a Friday night and bring themselves or one of their kids in for a cough/rash/earache/fever/stoma ch bug that could have easily been handled in the doctor's office (and we usually had appointments available). How do I know? I did the coding for the doctor and saw the diagnoses for the patients he was called to ER to see. Left me SMH every day.

I left for the day SMH as well. I just couldn't believe what I was coding.
