dont take me to great lakes animal hospital to see Dr John Drobish. the decision to rabies shot my cat when it had tapeworms makes no sense. 6 year old kitty indoor pet with well documented history in this vet hospital. he needs business so he makes you pay for extra "care" that is not nessesary..

I am sorry to hear of your "poor" experience. I have always found Dr. Drobish to be a very caring and compassionate Doctor. Did you ask why he reccommended the rabies vaccine or express concern over the fact that your cat may not tolerate it well since it had tapeworms?
My understanding is that it is a legal requirement for all cats and dogs to be vaccinated for rabies regardless of their household status.(Indoor vs. Outdoor) Indoor kitties may have less risk factors but they still are at risk. Bats and other carriers can and do enter our homes. This is evidenced by the fact that your indoor kitty had a tapeworm infection. Tapeworms are transmitted by fleas, or by eating an infected mouse. It appears to me that Dr. Drobish has practiced "Best Medicine".
Personally, I can't say enough about the Doctors and staff at Great Lakes Hospital for Animals. They are welcoming, caring and compassionate. They make the best medical reccommendations for animals and then work with owners to provide appropriate medical care.
When my dog "Moose" had an ear infection, they called a few days later to see how he was feeling. This never happened with the other clinics I frequented before finding Great Lakes Hospital for Animals.

I one hundred percent agree that the staff at Great Lakes Hospital for Animals WAS great. unfortunately they have gotten rid of the best vets and techs recently and i'm afraid they now "coerce" you into paying for unnecessary blood work, etc. You shouldn't have to ask your vet why he is doing something. it should be explained as if it was YOU he was caring for. After all, most pets are members of the family.
I will be taking my animals elsewhere from now on. So will alot of people when they experience the forceful attitude and tension at this clinic.

I will never return to Great Lakes. They have terminated there best staff there. Whom had taken care of several of my animals for several years. Be leary of positive comments left on here- as ive heard individuals who work there now-with code names- are posting those positive comments. I think that is unprofessional, as is the business they are now running.. with running up costs and unneeded tests!

I agree with most of the negative comments posted above. I recently had a very bad experience at this clinic as well. They are unprofessional and unorganized. Who ever is running the office seems to have no idea how to handle customers and their concerns. Do not take your pets here, unless you like to pay a lot of money for poor quality.

Be aware!! Recently transfered my records to Great Lakes clinic because I was new to the area and wanted to have a trustworthy Vet to look after my pets care. From walking into the clinic I was greeted warmly by the reception. Very nice open and friendly attitude! Well apparently when your behind closes doors things changed drastically!! Once inside the exam room I was pushed upon unnecessary booster shots, which I guess is only recommend by this office! Weird cause my dog is 6 and needs booster shots?? Then again argued against me in deciding the best heart worm Med for my dog. She's been on the same kind for years and its obivously been working. I thought it was VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and I was HIGHLY DISSAPPOINTED when I left the clinic!! It was clear to me they would've ran up my vet bill with unneeded testing if I hadn't asked WHY? Why this? why that? The VET had no concern and was not friendly at all! I will NOT be RETURNING to this clinic and advise anyone reading this comment to RUN!! For the safety of your pets!!

This used to be the best veterinary hospital in town...it has been run completely into the ground over the past year. The previous staff was so helpful and knowledgeable; from the front desk staff to the techs and especially the doctors (Whithoff, Marshall, and McGavin). None of these amazing people work there any longer and as a client I am left wondering why. Great Lakes is not the same with out them. I will be taking my pets and my business elsewhere.

It has been eye opening to be reading these comments about Great Lakes. Where are Whitthoft, Marshall, and McGavin now? I'd like to follow them, they have given my pets the best care for years.

I cannot believe what has happened to this clinic. I have entrusted them with my pets for over ten years because of their caring and knowledgeable staff. Recently however, the staff I grew to trust is all gone. I now find it to be a cold and uncaring place and will be transferring my records elsewhere.

Used to take my pets here. But every time I go in there are new faces, it seems to me that they are just trying to stay afloat at this point. They push all these extra tests, now I'm willing to do what's best for my pet but not while spending $300 a visit to keep them open. I'm taking my pets to a better business.

I recently took a animal to this hospital and had nothing but a professional and personal experience with the staff and veterinary care was A+..
Please remember this is a business and it is there job to offer test and medical care for your animals. You always have the right to refuse additional care such as blood work or whatever they offer. Just don't take it too personal if they seem like there selling because vets do this.. Thats how they make money and also let you know what products and treatments there are available..
The 1st line in vet care is you...And its your right to say no.. Unless the vaccine is required by law.

We recently switched to GLHA after the tragic death of one of our pets. Our remaining pet has had great treatment, the staff has been very considerate, informative and honest with us. Some of the comments I read seemed to indicate that the staff were overly assertive in recommending products and services. My only advice is know your pet and be respectful of the knowledge the doctor's have. When our pet recently had an infection, the vet recommended a probiotic in addition to the antibiotic. I was amazed at the difference in her recovery. I never had a pet on antibiotics do so well. Also, they have given us estimates and have always come in at or below the estimate, so we are always well informed. We are very happy with GLHA and the staff

Wow! I was looking for a vet in North GR and when I came upon this site and quickly noticed the difference in the positive and negative posts. One main difference I noticed was that ALL the negative posts were written with poor grammar, spelling errors and ridiculous expectations. It didnít take me long to figure out which posts to take seriously and which ones to ignore. Come on people; I bet your pets even know the difference between there and their!

I am sure pets don't care about how things are spelled, they would just like the best most reasonable care, and Great Lakes is not that place. Horrible service and even worse prices. They truely do not care about the pets or clients best interest, just making a buck in the name of the "Lord".Would not recommend to my worst enemy!

I have been going to this establishment for nearly 20 years. The prices were always a bit high, but I loved the staff and it is close to home.
Since Drobish bought the place, it has ran down hill! The negatives in these postings are ALL correct. Drobish gave my 8 year old dog a booster for dogs who go to kennels occasionally (Boardatelia?). It is in my file that my animals never go to a kennel. Drobish never even asked! I seen it on the (very high) bill when I got home.
Also, he gives the animals shots deep into their MUSCLE! Not just under the skin...I have never seen this! My dog is very tender in that spot for days! And it swells!
I LOVED Dr. Marshall and Dr. Elizabeth Bradford (Beth)...Yes all gone! I am currently looking elsewhere...Dr. Drobish actually tried to convince me that 1-800-petmeds is producing FAKE meds. I said: same packaging and all. Him: Yes! They are probably working out of a barn somewhere....I could hardly keep my composure! What a fruitloop!
