Smoking should be banned in apts. and condos. I live above a smoker and the smoke rises into my unit through the walls. My closets, under my sinks and my patio smell like cigs. I have an air filter going 24/7. I am allergic to smoke. My neighbors air out their unit and the corridors smell so bad you want to vomit. I say clean air is a right and I want that right.

Take it up with the land lord and the people that own the building. The people who own the building are the ones that should decide if they allow smoking, not the government.

Do you pay more rent than the smokers?? What gives you the right to make demands that, you, yourself wouldn't follow? If, one of your neighbors didn't like your perfume, cleaning products, or, the smell of your fish cooking... would you stop that activity?

Why do you live in apartment? Is it just so that you can complain about your neighbors?

I think a trailer would be more appropriate for you. I'm sure some of your neighbors would agree.

Then there is something wrong with the construction of the building. Most states have a 2 year statute of limitation. Get the specs from your apartment manager. Pursue it if you will. If smoking is allowed in the apartments then that is the smoker's right. I'd check into the construction of the building. but that's me. Bye, FC

I also agree, I do smoke but only outside, the neighbors smoke, and have a medical card so I smell there smoke in my apartment all the time! I can not leave my windows open at all because the smell from there pot comes into my house.it's bad your home should be free from other people's habit, and should not harm other people who live there. And it does come under the kitchen sink, outlets, air vents. I wounder what the long term effect is for pets, people?

Buy a house in an isolated area so that you will not interact with other people.

Since there are fewer smokers than non smokers, the smokers should buy the house out in the moddle of nowhere.

Fine with me...as long as the two groups do not have to interact at any level. Believe me, I want no more to do with you than you do with me.

My perfume, biodegradable cleaning products and home cooking will not give my neighbors lung cancer, emphysema nor prematurely age their skin to look like a used leather rag. I think you're probably a smoker thus defending yourself from similar complaints. And by all means, feel free to defend yourself. The problem is not that the smell is the only thing bothersome. It's the fact that it seeps into our clothes, our hair, our furniture, and our bodies is what bothers us. I pay just as much rent as a smoker yet I am not allowed peaceful enjoyment of my home. I'm considered a pest b/c I ask for better ventilation to which my cheap ass landlords tell me, "No, we don't have to provide that," because the law states that since I have a vent in my bathroom and kitchen, I have adequate ventilation already. It doesn't matter that I go through two air filters on my furnace each week and have a plug-in air purifier for each room, if not two of them for each, and have adopted twelve plants in hopes for better air inside my home. Meanwhile, your smoking addiction is costing me my peace of mind, my sanity, and my physical health. So, does my perfume, cleaning products or healthy cooking bother you? How would you even know over the deadened smell of your filthy impure air penetrating MY home?

If you are driven to such despair over some whiffs of smoke, perhaps you should see a counselor. Your obsession sounds much like OCD. There is treatment available. Do NOT allow yourself to go insane. Seek help

Sheri, you must be my downstairs neighbor - an inconsiderate smoker with no regard for the health or comfort of others.
It's not despair that I hear in this thread and we aren't talking only "a few whiffs of smoke" once in a while.
You are obviously not an empathetic person and you can't bring yourself to try and understand how smoke can make people physically ill (migraines, nausea, etc) not to mention disgusted by the smell it leaves on clothes and furniture.
Don't bother giving counseling advice when you are clearly not certified to make a diagnosis. Why don't you make better use of your time and get some empathy training?

THANK God I am not your neighbor. I could never put up with that whining. It makes me physically ill to listen to it.

They already have on the books to control your house temperature ,soon they will tell what you are going to eat, where you will work, how many kids you can have if any, what clothes you will wear,etc.etc.It seems Californians like it that way they are allowing it.Soon to come to the rest of the North American Alliance.
