Maple Tree Restaurant 1034 Lake St. Oak Park/River Forest

This place fits the bill for a classic breakfast spot. It's not trendy, like Toast, or clubby, like the Bongo Room, or exceptional, like Victory's Banner but it is darned good.

I had the worst food poisoning from this place and the sewer flies were eating my,fresh fruit?, on the plate, faster than I could. Negative stars!

If we've got to get in plugs for our favorite spots--than I have to nominate Al's Grill. For the 30-years I've been going there, the food has always been great. My #1 is the Denver omelet, followed by the corned beef hash and eggs. It's one of the few classic grills left in town.

Actually, Mike was there a couple of Sundays ago--eating the corned beef hash. Can't speak for him, but it kinda is like an endorsement.
