I am a mother of a very close friend. Alonzo was a great soccer and track athlete. If you are familiar with the area, you would realize that there are no sidewalks where a parent can teach a child to ride a bike or where a kid like Alonzo can go for an evening jog. Hainesville Road has marked white lines along the sides where Alonzo and friends were jogging when he was struck. She didn't even know she hit a person, until she saw Alonzo's friends screaming and yelling! It is so unfair how this person took Alonzo's life. If it weren't for her negligence, Alonzo would be with his family and friends. Nothing justifies his sudden death. Every driver has a duty to others on the road, no matter what. Hainesville Road is 30-35mph limit. She must have been going faster than that to not have time to stop, and to have caused such a tragedy. I hope that justice is served, and I hope that she can't sleep at night. There is a family that wanted him to become a successful adult.

The fact that the driver was released doesn't mean that charges are not going to be brought against her for reckless driving, etc.

The police will investigate and interview everyone then give the evidence to the states attorney who will either file charges, bring before a grand jury, or choose not to pursue the case.

I saw this boy grew up and my kids are very close to him and the their siblings, We can not still realize such tragedy and hope for the well being of the whole family.
Our deepest condolences and sorrow goes out to them.
In this tragedy, we agreed that drivers MUST be attentive to their driving and they should be responsible when they are in the road, there are many circunstances that we believe should be brought inthe investigation ( speed, what this driver was doing, cell phone , radio what).
We are not trying to find a some one to blame but WE strongly believe thet this tragedy could be avoid.
GOD BLESS YOU ALONZO, WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU.

I live on that road & it is dark with no sidewalks. THEY NEED TO INSTALL SIDEWALKS - it would have prevented this tragedy. The speed limit is 35 right there & it's 30 just further up the street. I never walk that road after dark, because drivers can't see you. I always drive really slowly there & pay lots of attention on that road. From what I've seen & heard of this boy he was a wonderful guy & will be missed terribly. I'm lighting a candel for him every day.

I frequently drive on Hainesville Rd. and it is very dark and does not have enough lights. Also, irregardless of the posted limit, MOST people drive above the posted limit on that Rd. My heart goes out to Alonzo's family, but also to the driver. It is a tragic accident. I ask those of you who posted some nasty comments to be truthful to yourself...if you drive and drive on Hainesville Rd, do you go 30 m.p.h.? I had a near miss driving there once. A youth was walking on the road after dark with a dark hoodie on, hood up, and I never saw him until I past him. Let me tell you, it scared me! And I was driving the speed limit!

You would think someone would have enough sense not to go walking on Hainesville Road in the dark dressed like that.

I think one of the reasons for the speed problem there is that it was 40 mph in that area for a long time and people tend to forget that or think they are going slower than they actually are. It wasn't changed that long ago. Not making excuses for people that drive too fast, but I go by there and forget now and then, too.

Haven't read a thing about 65MPH, glasses or lights. Let's let the facts come out. This is a terrible tragedy for all involved. Do you really think the driver will ever be the same?

i'm the person that most of u might want to beat the crap out of or even kill me. I'm the person that took Alonzo's life. I first and formost would just like to tell everyone that reads this that i'm sorry. I pray every day that this wouldn't have happened. My heart is broken over this i would never do anyhting like this on purpose. I wake up crying and i go to bed crying. Some of u will forget about this boy in months or maybe years. but i have to live with this for the rest of my life. and it hurts me. yes i've thought about killing myself but i have a baby and family that needs me, there is no point losing two lives. I'd like to give u the facts. It was completely dark on Hainsville rd. There are no lights and no sidewalks. u can barely see the road in front of u. I was going no faster than 38 mph. Alonzo ran in front of my car and i didn't see him until it was too late. i was not on any drugs, i was not drunk i didn't have a drop of alcohol.i was not speeding i was wearing a seat belt and my 2 year old daughter was in the car. as soon as i realized i had hit a person i imediatly ran to him and started to cry and pray for him. I called the hospital everday trying to find out how he was i called the police to get facts, i had everyone i know praying for him people all over the country. On my part i feel like i did everything i could. I wish that he would have been prepared to jog on hainsville, reflectors or somthing, he was wearing dark clothes. Again i'm really sorry. I grieve everyday for Alonzo and everyone that he has touched.
