Oh,yes how could one forget the 70S in good ol Mansfield. Sheriff Wikel and his gang of hoodlums.
I will never forget the picture on the front page of Gene Hart handcuffed to a cell. Makes you kind of wonder why everyone moved out of that hell hole.
I had hoped that things had changed over the years.
From what i hear through the grapevine not much really has. Its a dying town, and no-one seems to have a clue as how to resurect it. Such a shame because it is one of the most beautiful areas in Ohio. Yes, i remember the book (rotten to the core)
it was the truth. Hey, does anyone remember what happened to Shaun Kerney. The cops set him up on a murder charge, then killed him. Only problem was he was left handed and they made it look like a suicide
shooting himself with his right hand. Then the cop who was involved in the girls murder just left town.
Heard he was working in law enforcement down in Florida. Talk about the good ol boys! I had hoped the tourch had moved on with the passing of time.
Most of the crooked judges and attorneys from those days are now dead or retired.
I too have lived in Mansfield all my life. My dad had many run ins with Weikle and his jerks. And many beatings. The deputies would come to our house and badger my grandparents for the whereabouts of my dad. My grandpa had to call the attorney and file paperwork to make them leave us alone. I also heard they went to practice their brand of dirty justice in Florida.

I just watched a repeat (but new to me) of a program about the Noreen Boyle murder. Does anyone know what happened to Noreen's two children? I thought her son was very brave to talk to the police about what he knew and I hope he has done well and doesn't feel guilt about not being able to save his Mom. He was a hero for his mom by telling what he knew afterwards. A brave boy and a son any mother would be proud to have, I hope things are going okay for him under the circumstances.
Noreen and John Boyle's 2 children were adopted by the neighbor who cared for them after John Boyle's arrest. I can't remember the family's name...but they were somehow connected with private school which the children attended (On Millsboro Rd...or maybe it's still Cline Ave on that block.(Between Marion Ave and Trimble Rd.) Boyle's family (brother....I think) tried to get custody but the petition was denied.

Well he was a very young boy and was coached by a certain Detective at MPD, do you really think a Navy Flight Surgeon would actually be stupid enough to murder his wife whom he was divorcing, and then bury her in the basement of his new house and then hide the evidence in his front yard? Seriously? He was a good man I new him and there was a lot more to be gained by others, including some of Mansfield's finest. Disgusting what they have gotten away with in that town. Glad I am gone.

All I know is what I saw on the TV program. To my knowledge I have never even been to Mansfield, tho I have been to Ohio. I don't know about this particular man, but I do know many, many men all over the country kill their wives and/or domestic partners every day. Doctors (and lawyers) in particular seem egotistical to me, anyway many of them do. The males, I mean. Like "how dare she divorce me?" Police officers as well can be the same way, some of them. The police chief of our town of almost 200,000 killed his wife and then himself because she was divorcing him. Too large a town to cover things up.

I also spent the first 40 plus years of my life, including the "70's" in Mansfield, Ohio. I moved away almost 20 years ago. I have such a heavy heart since reading your posts. Having lived in Mansfield my entire life I or no one I know had the experiences with the "corrupt" law enforcement officials you refer to or have experienced. I have wonderful memories of Mansfield and many great friends and family. Most postings refer to confrontations with the law as negative events in which the law was out looking for someone to pick on. Could it possibly be we are creating our own issues with the law? Did any of these individuals who had issues with the officers have clean records or steady employment? He who lives in a glass house should not throw stones. The past is just that "the past", you are the future. If you feel you know what the problem is, then learn from the past and move toward making it better for your future and your children's future.
