Honestly, is anyone really suprised that the behaivor from "Rotten to the Core" hasn't changed, just the faces and names? I lived in this horrid little backwater until I was 17, and have watched my father FRUITLESSLY try to clear his name with a corrupt justice system that can't seem to keep track of their own paperwork. Today's news item involves someone throwing Molotovs at the Muni Building. Sounds like they finally lost the wrong documents. Cheers, and good luck bringing these fools to their knees. Viva la revolution.

I just watched a repeat (but new to me) of a program about the Noreen Boyle murder. Does anyone know what happened to Noreen's two children? I thought her son was very brave to talk to the police about what he knew and I hope he has done well and doesn't feel guilt about not being able to save his Mom. He was a hero for his mom by telling what he knew afterwards. A brave boy and a son any mother would be proud to have, I hope things are going okay for him under the circumstances.

I was unfortunate enough to have lived in Mansfield in the 70's and one of my friends was severely tortured by Weidar and his goons in the country jail. The case was mentioned in 'Rotten to the Core' by Martin Yant. A few years ago Gene Hart was the police chief in Clintonville, a suburb of Columbus, until a civic minded citizen revealed his checkered past. I went to high school with Hart and he has always been a total jerk! He started his career by sending his best friend to jail for pot. The News Journal routinely covered up the many crimes of Weikel and crew!

On June 24, 2005 my father was found outside a bar in Mansfield (The Den) and we were told that he "fell down" .. he had massive brain injuries and ultimately passed away. We were told by doctors that the injuries were not consistent with a fall unless he fell from a 15ft ladder. We never found out what really happened that night and it still haunts me to this day. He did, however, have a ticket in his pocket from police for public intoxication. Nothing adds up. If anyone has any information regarding this or would like to talk, please contact me at mckay.shawn@att.net. Thank you!

Sean Kearney was my cousin and not only did a young innocent man lose his life, but his family suffered tremendously. They tried so hard to clear his name and bring justice to the two murder victims. I can't believe the murderer is still getting away with it.
I also read the post about the priest in Mansfield who was a molestor. God, what has happened to this country?

Thank you both for keeping some candles burning. When you report the truth or shine a spotlight on injustice, it helps.

Oh,yes how could one forget the 70S in good ol Mansfield. Sheriff Wikel and his gang of hoodlums.
I will never forget the picture on the front page of Gene Hart handcuffed to a cell. Makes you kind of wonder why everyone moved out of that hell hole.
I had hoped that things had changed over the years.
From what i hear through the grapevine not much really has. Its a dying town, and no-one seems to have a clue as how to resurect it. Such a shame because it is one of the most beautiful areas in Ohio. Yes, i remember the book (rotten to the core)
it was the truth. Hey, does anyone remember what happened to Shaun Kerney. The cops set him up on a murder charge, then killed him. Only problem was he was left handed and they made it look like a suicide
shooting himself with his right hand. Then the cop who was involved in the girls murder just left town.
Heard he was working in law enforcement down in Florida. Talk about the good ol boys! I had hoped the tourch had moved on with the passing of time.
Most of the crooked judges and attorneys from those days are now dead or retired.

Sean Kearney would have been my uncle, but I am 25 and wasn't alive by the time he passed away. My Dad's side of the family has never told me about what happened...I've received the cliff notes from my half-sister(different dad). If anyone can give me an idea of what really happened, that would be great. You can email me or look me up on facebook. I am now in the Navy. From his cousin above, it would be great if I could get the story from someone in the family. I don't want to ask my dad about the death of his brother. Thanks. (My dad is Mark Kearney)

My Brother lives in Fla.; Gene Hart is still alive & living near Madeira Beach, which is just outside of St. Petersburg. I along with a lot of others owe him something special, but, will just let old age & Karma take it's course. The Mansfield court system hasn't changed. My family had dealings with them & child protective services last year. It didn't turn out any different than when Judge Johns sat on the bench.

Gee, you're welcome to buy a press and set up a competing newspaper anytime you wish! I'd think twice though. Not exactly a prosperous industry right now.

If we didn't have the News Journal, where would we get the news?

Steve, let me clear some things up.

Entertainment: Virtually none. One bowling, two movie theaters and that's it. Closest entertainment is in columbus, almost an hour away.

People: Make sure you look where you move first. Can be nasty or dangerous. Ontario is half way decent usually.

Employment: There is some nice places to work, but be careful. This place is small and it seems like everyone knows everyone and if you piss one off for not taking crap, you make it a lot harder for yourself.

Food: other than Red lobster and a few select other places, in Mansfield you typically have 2 choices:
FAST FOOD OR STEAK

Anything else just let me know

Uh, Indian restaurant just getting ready to open on the square and about 10 chinese places I can think of. Let's support the new Indian place and get some diversity! Polaris, and it's large selection of great restaurants, is about 45 minutes down the road. No biggie.
