You can't blame Lacey...she wasn't the one who put the money up. In our family, we have been fortunate as well, and our parents brought us up never to take that for granted. We believe the blame is on her parents...they could have raised their daughter with more appreciative values as well as also used the money for this extravagant birthday party to try to save Martin Designs....instead employees are out of work in a town that is hurting for jobs. We feel the money spent for this party could have been used in a way to save jobs...and would set an example to his daughter of how the generosity of being wealthy could be used to help those less fortunate. We're not saying that people shouldn't enjoy or deserve success. These days, people in our country frown upon success, there is nothing wrong with being successful. When people supporting their families find out on short notice that they have lost their jobs, they're going to feel resentful when they see or find out about Marty's daughters sixteenth birthday party. Although we feel that every daughters sweet sixteen is very special and that they could have fulfilled a most memorable party by cutting out a majority of the things they did. That money could have been used to keep the business open at least short term and you never know what could have happened. In closing we live in a capitalist world and we truly believe in it. But when you send people to the unemployeement line, the people that are on that line or people that know people on that line see that episode on MTV or read it in the paper are going to be very judgmental. We hope that all the feedback received from this will hopefully persuade people that it is better to be a hero than flaunting what they have on national television.

personally i don't think anyone has the right to tell the myers family how to spend or not spend their money. i was very disturbed by the letter to the editor in the paper saying they should give the money to a charity. you have no idea what those people do for charities. i don't either but i know that their family is full of good and hard working honest people and they don't deserve all this criticism. lacy is also a wonderful person. if you watch other episodes of the show you will see how ungrateful some of those people can be. lacy never once got into fights with her parents and she never threw a fit. she is the nicest girl that has ever been on this show. and i think that if her parents want to do this for her then let them do it. if she wants to be in the entertainment business then this can only benefit her as far as exposure goes. so people really need to stop butting in to there lives telling them how to spend their money and were to send their kids to school. lacy wanted to have a good time and now everyone is probably just making her feel horrible.

Who cares about her sweet sixteen they made too big of a deal from it. An what parents let their daughter dress the way she did to ridew the elephant????? Evertone has birthday parties lets lokk at things that are a little more important rather than following the story of a spoiled preppy brat. This is so frustrating I think Im glad she had fun but its not a big freakin deal we all celebrate birthdays!!! Just because shes rich dont mean shes anything special around here!

If you all weren't busy spending all your energy on jealousy, maybe you would put that same effort into making your own small fortune. I know the Myers family and have for many years. Mr and Mrs Myers are great people and very down to earth. My family does not have money and we have been great friends with them for many years. They are very smart with their money and help this community in more ways then you all would ever know. And as for Lacey being spoiled, not so MTV had to actually tell her she needed to ask for more things to make the show more interesting. When my husband and I make our small fortune, I will be sure to buy my kids a good dependable automobile that I don't have to worry about them traveling in. All anybody wants is to give their children the best in life better than we had as children and when you do, everyone comes out of the woodwork and has a comment, as to how you are raising your children. Now if the Myers gave their children nothing and made their kids work at mcdonalds everyone would call them greedy parents that don't care out their kids. So in closing keep your 2 cents to your selves and go get another job with all this free time, make your own money and quit complaining about what others do with theirs.
