What is one to do when a young woman is being harrassed about her pregnancy in the workplace? Being in the first trimester she felt it was not necessary to tell anyone yet, as it did not affect her ability to perform her duties. But because of an indiscretion by a fellow employee by telling all of the staff the news(who by the way happens to be the mother of the babies father)has caused this young woman undo distress at work. I can't say that any laws have been broken, but the grandmother to be is very angry with the current situtation. Therefore teaming up with the employer and managing staff to harass this the young woman into having to quit her job. Of course we can all say just quit the job. But jobs are hard to come by in these times. So what gives someone the right to force this on on another human being. Sort of a no win situation for her.
Legally if you quit there is no recourse. And if she stays it would probably harmful to her and her unborn child due to the tension at the workplace. There seems to me that somehow this employer and staff should be held accountable for such actions. I personally have found no legal foothold to protect this young woman from what is if not legally wrong just plain morally wrong. It is a shame that some people go through life with never being held accountable for their actions whether legally or morally wrong. Not to mention the last thing an expectant mother needs at this time in her pregnancy is more stress. If anyone can shed some light on this subject I would surely appreciate it. |
