We have great news for the residents of Smith Point who really want a village, but not through the Smith Point Beach Property Owners Association. We have decided to form our OWN village committee...The Smith Point Village Exploratory Committee. The following reasons are WHY we are forming our own Committee: 1.) We want ALL the residents of Smith Point to be included within the boundaries. The current boundaries exclude residents from the village based on personal reasons and/or problems with certain members of the other village committee. 2.) We know that a 2.5 square mile village will definitely guarantee a tax increase. Although we would be willing to pay a little more in taxes for the benefits that a village would provide, we know that including an area with more businesses will help us minimize a tax increase to little or nothing. 3.) We do NOT want to see the Links become a 450 Unit Development. This would crush our already congested roadways and in this economy there is no guarantee that these would sell, furthering the chance that this could quite possibly become a low income housing complex. 4.) The Village process must be transparent and open to all the residents and questions MUST be answered honestly. Need I say more? So, let's move on......if you want to be an Incorporated Village and be involved in in the process, including determining the village boundaries, we are asking you to gather up ALL of your friends and family and contact us at SmithPoint11967@aol.com. We will be having a meeting in mid-March and would like to have our Village Committee Board in place by then. If you are strongly motivated, tenacious and willing to work hard, WE WANT YOU! Because we want the Village to go through, we felt it would be in the best interest of the community and the Village Committee to not be the Chairman. We are in the process of speaking to 3 very reputable individuals about being the Chairman for the committee. All 3 individuals have great reputations and are well known in the community for their work to improve our area. 2 of the 3 have already stated they are definitely on board! We have many positions to fill, i.e. treasurer, advertising, fundraising, etc. Please let us know if you would like to be involved and if so, what position you would be interested in. We are making arrangements to meet with the Mastic Beach Village Exploratory Committee to get their advice and help as to the process. We have also invited them to speak at our first meeting, since they are well into the process and their knowledge is invaluable. **Please Note** THERE ARE NO DUES OR MEMBERSHIP FEES OR MONEY REQUIRED. We are only asking for your time and hard work. If you are able to donate towards the Village, we would certainly appreciate it but it is not a requirement for working on the village. It's time to take back our community from outsiders with their own agenda's and make this dream a reality. In closing, we are asking that if you are for the village, please speak to your neighbors and friends and family who live here.

just as a reminder to everyone since you mentioned the links at shirley, there is a meeting this tuesday night 2/17/09 at 7:30pm at Brookhaven Town Hall. This is a public scoping meeting regarding the development of the links, it is a requirement for the developer to have this meeting in accordance of their SEQURA application. This is the first opportunity for the community to come out and voice their opinion about the impacts this development will have, the impacts being either enviromental, traffic, quality of life etc. Be sure to get as many people out to this meeting the politicians are being told and or saying to everyone that the community is in support of this project. Anyone I have spoken is against it. So no matter your stance on this project come to this important meeting 2/17/09 7:30pm Brookhaven Town Hall, this meeting is run by the developer and you can be sure their supporters will be there.

The meeting is Tuesday 02/17/09, but the event starts at 6:30pm. There is no set time for the developer to make his presentation. So it is important that any resident who wishes to speak, be there before the meeting starts. Incidentally, if you want to speak for or against the project, you must give the Town Clerk a card filled out with your name, address, and civic affiliation, because your comments will be made part of the Town's official record.
My personal view of this PRC is negative. We don't need 900 more cars traveling on WM Floyd Pky daily, with more traffic lights. We do not need to have 450 homes dumping pollution into our aquifer. The proposed sewers could alter the static water levels in Mastic Beach, which could result in additional flooding whenever it rains.
And my biggest fear is that the development will be undersold, and the remaining units could be rented. WE do not need any more rentals.

I think your information is incorrect. This is not a Town Board meeting. It is a scoping hearing run by the Holiday Org. I have been told by Keith Romaine's office that it does start at 7:30. The Holiday Org. will present their side and then the public will be given time to make comments.

WOW! I know these people and NO one agreed to be on your stupid committee. Get a life. I can see Lee latching on, these things tend to happen after losing an election. With that said: There is a very important meeting regarding the Links at Shirley at Brookhaven Town Hall on Tuesday 2/17/09 at 7:30pm. The politicians are already lining up for their piece of the pie from the developer both on the County level and Town level. No one wants to get involved with people who have such hate. You and your entourage of three are very sick people. Stop making false statements about this joke of a committee you threw together. You wish Bob Vecchio would be part of your charades. You are disturbed. Hey born again maybe someone should notify the school superintendent of this conspiracy. Is the school board president allowed to be on this so called "Board"? I think in this "silly season" anything is possible. born again wrote: No one wants to get involved with people who have such hate. You and your entourage of three are very sick people. I am not interested in throwing stones only in the extent of the hate I am reading. Is anyone even a bit concerned that these people are so full of hate? The more I read on I can see the BIG picture. This "Jenn in shirley" person has so much hate.

You are not interested in anything other than attacking and hurting people. Jenn you are nothing but a cyber bully. You are so full of hate one has to wonder what happened in your life to carry such hate and put in on others?
