Could be responsible? There's loopholes galore on this one for lawyers to jump through

Yeah wouldn't there be damage/blood on the Hummer? Something's not right.

"Good Samaritan"?? Besides driving drunk and possibly killing a 21 year old girl, what has Maryanne Sy done to act as a good samaritan?

And you mean to tell me that Maryanne Sy was found intoxicated, with an unsteady gait driving a hummer at the scene where a young girl suffered fatal head trauma and was released with no bail.

And it took 4 days to get the vehicle. What kind of evidence are they expecting to find after four days.

This is a tragic story and I pray that justice will be served.

If you had read the article you would know that she wasn't driving drunk. Her blood alcohol was 0.07, which is below the legal limit. Next time read the article before you pass judgement

What a disgusting idea, "Good Samaritan." How does the lawyer live with him/herself? The driver and lawyer should be sooo ashamed of themselves, and whomever let her go without bail.

I am praying there were witnesses on the scene, so Maryanne Sy receives the most severe sentence imaginable.

This is so so tragic.

Um, yeah. She blew JUST under the legal limit when they eventually got around to testing her, well after the incident. Obviously she had been over it when the incident happened. Next time use your head before you pass judgement.

This is the first time I have EVER posted a comment on a forum like this. After reading your comments, I can't hold back... Have you ever driven a vehicle in Manhattan, Joan? I live and drive in Manhattan. It is not an easy task. To defend a person driving around the streets of Manahttan after comsuming ANY alcohol is absurd. With all of the public transportation options in Manhattan, there no excuse for it! Then, to bicker with another concerned citizen over how "drunk" this woman was is disgusting. Bottom line - There is a CHILD dead well before her time, how about a little compasion for her loved ones suffering an unimaginable tradgey right now.

Joan:

Get my facts straight? Maryann Sy had slurred speech and unsteady gait and blew a 0.086 at the scene of the crime. Those are the facts.

Shame on you Joan.

JOan how dare you defend MaryAnne. I was at the wake for Melissa and it was the saddest thing. Hundreds of people in mourning including her Grandparents. - a line around the block of the funeral home. I hope that MaryAnne suffers the rest of her life. Melissa was a beautiful girl with her whole life ahead of her.

From Newsday this morning.
http://www.newsday.com/services/newspaper/pri...

Clarification:

Maryanne Sy of Franklin Square had a blood-alcohol content of .084 from a breath-alcohol test that New York City police administered at the scene of a June 24 incident in Manhattan. A second test, administered by police after Sy was taken into custody, showed a blood-alcohol content of .077. The result of the first test was not included in the criminal complaint filed in the case by the Manhattan district attorney's office and was not mentioned in a story yesterday regarding Sy and the death of pedestrian Melissa Giorgio of Bellmore.

Melissa was a part of my extended family and I can't believe what I read in that article. It seems like the NYPD really dropped the ball on this one by not impounding that vehicle on the scene. This is a really sad day and has left a family heartbroken for no reason at all.

fact of the matter is she hit melissa and a life was lost. so instead of debating over the injury since it killed her, and whether maryanne was or was not over the legal limit, let's all take a minute to realize that she still wasn't paying attention while she was driving, and she DID get behind the wheel after however many drinks; and legal limit or not, she had other options to get home that night (lirr, cab, walking, subway, etc...) people in manhattan drive like animals, not to insult anyone from the city, but some individuals switch lanes and cut corners to make a light and don't care because everyone is in a rush, even at night. this is a terribly sad story and regardless of loopholes anyone thinks exist, i think justice will be served.

Tp pay attention - I just hope you are right and justice will be served. I hope she does not get away with her careless, stupid move. Everything you posted is right on the money. It just breaks my heart that a beautiful young woman was killed.

I hope that MaryAnne feels extreme guilt for the rest of her life.
