I buried my niece, Melissa two days ago. We buried a 21 year old who had such an amazing future ahead of her. Attending F.I.T. for one more semester, working at Anthropologie at R.F. Melissa had great loving parents, a sister, a brother, elderly grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and great friends. All of us have been hit so hard with this tragedy. We were all connected with heartstrings. Melissa was a typical young girl who went out to dinner in the City, then as she was WALKING to the LIRR was killed by a drunken driver, Maryanne Cy. I don’t know what upsets me more……is it that Maryanne Cy was partying so much that she couldn’t think of anyone but herself? To me an automobile is a weapon, how do you operate one with any alcohol at all???? If she has children, would she have driven with them in the car that night??? Or am I upset that she doesn’t step up to the plate, admit she shouldn’t have been behind the wheel, and be remorseful. Take what punishment is due. You earned it! You don’t drink and drive…. Maryanne Cy needs to look at Melissa’s picture and truly know what she did to her, and her family. No parent should have to bury a child………especially for crossing a street. SHAME ON YOU, SHAME ON YOU MARYANNE CY. Another thing tearing at my heart, Maryanne Cy lives in Long Island. She was going to drive for another hour, on highways, thru Manhattan, through Long Island, driving a hummer DRUNK. How many of you or someone you love were out that night, walking or driving in her line of traffic? Maryanne Sy could have struck them. This has to stop. We never know who the next victim will be. It could be you or someone you love so much as we did Melissa. All we have now of Melissa are our memories. I will pray every night and I hope everyone will also, that someone pays for the crime and that DWI and DUI stops once and for all. Maryanne Cy you have hurt so many people. Thousands have been touched by Melissa and destroyed by you. Shame on you!
