Denise wrote: I hope this gym goes out of business with the way they treat their customers!! Dear Denise, that is horrible thing to say that you would wish bad things to happen to your neighbors. People that do their best to keep your health club clean, new and operational. You always have a choice to go to another health club but to say you hope we go out of business just shows that you have no respect for people that try their best.

almost victim wrote: I'm so glad that I read these reports. I was actually thinking about joining this gym because it was closer rather than going to a gym that was practically free. Based upon the reviews here, I would rather travel the extra 15 minutes for a hassle free workout. Maybe prospective clients should take their contracts to an attorney before handing over any monies! Working out is not supposed to be so mentally draining (let along financially draining). Thanks for all your opinions. I haven't even seen one good one. Dear almost victim, I hope you enjoy the travel. I can assure you that our contracts are perfectly legal and prepared by our attorneys and comply with NYS law. I agree however, that your workout should be hassle free and enjoyable and I assure you that we have no desire for you to have anything but a pleasurable experience at our clubs.

Debbie wrote: I took a kickboxing class the other night with an instructor named Eric. When I took a few second break to get some water I looked at my cell phone and Eric started screaming at me. I was not on the phone so looking at my phone for whatever reason did not effect him in any way. I spoke to Chiara and told her that I go to the gym to destress after a day of work not to be yelled at like a child. She explained that people love Eric's attitude. What kind of gym allows his instructors to curse at their customers and then say its okay. I like to go to classes at 5 but this low life is the only instructor. I suggested alternating him with someone else to pick up those of us who don't like this immature behavior. Her reponse was they are opening up a new extreme in Merrick. How in the world can they afford to keep two gyms open three miles apart especially with their attitude? Is there something fishy going on here? Dear Debbie, at the gym we offer 45 classes per week. I agree with you certain instructors are tougher than others. But none of the instructors prohibit cell phones in their class. If you have unhappy with one instructors there is 35 other classes you can attend. For the most part, most people appreciate Eric's sterness. However, this may not be for you in which I encourage you to take a class with a instructor with a more gentle and personable approach.

Chris wrote: Thats funny I got such a bad vibe when I walked in with my girlfriend to sign up in tonight! There were two bratty little girls behind the counter that had to be not a day older than 15! I told them that we were ready to sign up (2 people!) and I would like them to do something with the enrollment fee.. like waive it.. they said sorry and basically looked away and helped out someone else who was at the counter.... They are not too smart over there.. I wonder who is running that place.. whoever it is is either zoned out on steroids or has so much money that this gym is a hobby and doesnt care if it is losing money! How do you pass up on 2 memberships over $99.. they could have even offered a 50% enrollment fee and I would have went for it... pure stupid if you ask me. Dont waste your time going to this gym.. go where they will give you the time of day. Dear Chris, let me explain to you the facts. Prices and enrollments are set for a reason this reason is quite simple it is so the gym can maintain its highest standards that the members are accustomed to. We are not used cars salesmen and do not negotiate prices. Think of it logically, would it be fair to give you a discount and not my thousands of other members? I think not.

She actually told me to go "fuck" myself after I could not handle her disgusting attitude and I had to walk out. I was trying to cancel my membership after I was upset that they had assessed four fees to my account without even a call!!! I have to go back in there tonight and see if there is anyone human in there to just cancel my membership! I loved this gym but I can't work out there with this attitude. I like personalizeed gyms, and this is definatley what you get but from as one man reportede, "the ice queen" and they don't really care about you as a customer. Dearest Briana, I am offended by your statement that one of my employees told you go "f" yourself. I have not said this to anyone but I will say this to you, you are quite simply a liar. I been working with my manager for over 2 years and I have never heard her use foul language. I cannot be responsible for you inability to handle your own financial situation and allow your gym members to become incredibly deliquent. Which is entirely your fault and yet you ask me to pay for your mistakes. This is absurd. When you bounce a check the bank assesses fees why would you expect the gym to cover those fees for you? The gym has no issues with no member cancelling as long as you in compliance with the contract that you agreed to.

DAS wrote: Buyer Beware!!!! What you are seeing posted here is so true. Not only do I recommend you read the fine print I would advise anyone even thinking about joining this gym to forget it! The contract is so one sided it must be illegal. This place does not care about you at all. They don't appreciate you as a customer either. I was a member in good standing on automatic payment for 7 months. I called and canceled my membership over the phone with the manager, Chiara "who has ice running through her veins" and she still charged me for another 2 months. I am not even using the gym and they are charging me! This place should be banned by everyone and anyone even thinking about joining!!! There are so many better gyms out there in all aspects. I wouldn't go to this gym if it was the last place on this earth!!!!!!! Dear Buyer Beware, maybe you should use the gym. This is what you are paying for. The fact that you do not come to the gym has nothing to do with your contractual agreement to pay the gym. The gym is for your use and enjoyment and we would encourage you to use it as much as possible. All cancellations must be in writing, this is to protect your rights and so you have proof that you have indeed cancelled. Since you would not come here if it was the last place on earth I guess we will never see you again.

Jeff Rosenberg wrote: I signed up for a 6 month membership and paid in full up front. I now want to renew for a full year. I was told that I have to pay a $99 enrollment fee on top of the stated monthly charge. They say that even though I am already a member, they already have my registration information, my credit card number and I have an electronic gym tag, I must enroll again to change my terms. The 6 month registration was quite high so they already made a bundle off od me. They are letting me walk away while at the same time they are spending thousands of dollars in advertising to attract new members for $399. How can it make financial sense to any business to lose a loyal customer who is asking to renew and will probably stay for years to come while at the same time offer much lower deals to new potential customers? What a short sighted decision. I guess I will become an appreciated member at Titan instead. The message is that a member who pays $300 for 6 months is not truly an enrolled member because he did not take the 12 month plan at the outset. But from the other side, I am not a new member being offered the $399 special because to qualify for that special rate you can't already be a member. Be careful what you sign and make sure you understand all the games they will play. For a $99 re-enrollment, they will let you walk out the door. Dear Jeff, you taught me a very valuable lesson. I am outraged at your statement because you neglected to mention was that I was courteous enough to waive that $99 enrollment fee that asked for. I hope that Titans appreciates you as much I did and when you asked them to waive their fees you will have no problems of course. Feel free to stay at Titans forever.

beware wrote: Careful what you sign at the Extreme Fitness (XF). I was a member since it was the good ole Powerhouse Gym. XF continued charging me after i wanted out because of the fine print, even though I didnt have a contract and if I cancelled the electronic debit, the manager threatened me with a collections agency. Applying for a mortgage, I was pretty much at their mercy. The gym equipment was outdated under the previous ownership, but at least they didnt hassle you with fine print like they do now. Dear Kevin, there is no fine print in my contracts. The print is equally sized throughout. The reason why you sign a contract several times is to acknowledge the fact that you understand it as in your case. Don't confuse the fact that you did not want to pay your contractual obligation because you didn't read the "fine print" in which you and I both know is just an excuse for you not to pay. Once again, we have no issues with people wanting to cancel their contracts as long as they comply with the agreed method.

i dont understand why everyone complains when theres basically a two for one price at this gym. If people are unhappy with the prices then get someone else to sign up with you and just share 1 pass, thats what i've been doing since powerhouse days, i share it with about 20 people and charge them for using my card hahahaha

You all dont know what you are talking about - this gym is clean, never crowded and the staff is friendly and courteous. We just moved from Brooklyn - and were paying nearly triple the cost for NYSC. Xtreme Gym beats NYSC anyday. The machines were old, there were roaches and dirt / dust on the mats - it was nasty. We are thrilled to be members of Xtreme Gym and get a lot of value for our fees.

What's up with this place anyway? On October 11th a signed a contract for the new Merrick club with the promise it would be open by November 15th. Well, here it is November 15th and the building is empty! I called the Bellmore club and spoke to some cyborg named "Chiara" who told me that November 15th was not "guaranteed". I'm hearing now that the whole operation is being held up by some Town of Hempstead red tape (no doubt that required permits were not obtained). I'm told by the cyborg lady that I can't utilize the Bellmore club because it's too crowded, but if I'd like I can use the Farmingdale facility. Why would I want to travel twelve miles to work out when the club I signed up for is only three quarters of a mile from my home in Merrick? This is one VERY shady operation. I've already spoken to my lawyer who advises I cancel my credit card so that there's no chance they can make any deductions. At this point they've taken no money from me because basically there's no where for me to go. I have an active gym membership elsewhere that's valid until the end of November, but after that.....what? If I had known what kind of a show they were running beforehand (I should have checked these posts), I would never have signed up. I went for price & convenience and I've paid the price. As far as I'm concerned once they reneged on an opening date, the contract was null & void. I'm going to find a way to walk away from this one and they can go scratch for their money. By the way, does anyone know the nameless, faceless entity that owns this business?

I too signed up with the "promise" of a November 15th opening date. I should have requested that be written into the contract. At that point I wonder how quickly I would have been offered a membership. I've spoken with at least three individuals (a Chiara at the Bellmore club and two people at the Farmingdale facility) who could offer no valid information regarding the Merrick facility. I may be mistaken but wasn't this club originally slated for an April 2009 opening? If you are an owner/proprietor of a business is it not your responsibility to give people accurate information? If you can't deliver on a promise is it not then your responsibility to either refund your customers, or tell them the truth so that they can make other arrangements? I gather from reading these posts that the owner of this establishment takes a "If you don't like it, then get lost kind of attitude". Your contracts may be within legal guidelines but your ethics are at the best questionable. Don't hide behind the printed word......treat people as you would like to be treated.

Hi Xtreme Gym,
I was checking out your gym and noticed that you didn't have a standing calf raise machine which is a basic piece of equipment. Any reason why?
