I appreciate Senator Steve Litzow and Representative Tana Senn for their work on early learning in Olympia. As a member of the House Early Learning and Human Services Committee, Representative Senn recently voted for House Bill 2377, a bill designed to improve the quality of child care and preschool in Washington. Senator Litzow introduced Senate Bill 6127 that aims to accomplish the same goals as the House bill. These bills have received strong support from police chiefs, sheriffs and prosecuting attorneys in King County and throughout the state because of the proven crime prevention benefits of high-quality early learning. Research has shown that at-risk kids who attend high-quality preschool are more likely to graduate from high school and less likely to commit crimes as juveniles and adults. These programs not only save money, they lead to safer communities.
