Your "position" is what, exactly?
The article doesn't mention the word "rare", and he doesn't mention anything thst could be considered a sentiment of altruism other than "There's certainly a need...." within a framework of him talking about the practice he needs to do.
No, it was within a framework of enabling women to contine to have access to the procedure. Which was the position I was referring to, not the rarity of LTAs. The article never mentions 'chasing the market', or recouping an investment, or the procedure being common enough to make a lot of money on. It DOES mention a need that a woman might have being available to them. So, this article DOES support my position that he is doing this to offer a service, and not yours that he is merely doing this for the money.

What on earth are you trying to say?
It's bull that altruists don't typically charge people?
"Doctors become so"? What do they become?
Which words gave you trouble? Doctors become doctors from a sense of altruism. Yes, it's bull that altruists don't typically charge people.

No, it's not rare just because I say so. It's rare BECAUSE it is a statistically low number.
He's not building a business around it. Those clinics will offer the other healthcare services as well.
He provides other services now. He's only expanding on the basis of being able to perform LTA's. He says so in the article. Type "1.3%" if you want. He thinks it's worth the expense of the expansion.

You can CP can play "alternate reality" with this all you want, but it's in the article and Carhart says it. CP can assume all he wants about how little profit, if any, Carhart makes and you can assume all you want about Carhart doing this from some heightened sensibility other than chasing a lucrative market for his services, It seems to make you feel better, and that's fine, but that's now how the article reads.

It is?

Do you know what "altruism" means?

So, your "position" is that he is primarily expanding to offer the service, and any money he'd make would be a happy accident?

They do? I thought they became doctors to earn a living. Is it only doctors, or also other people like plumbers and mechanics?

He's always offered the other services.

Type 1.3% if I WANT? Well thank you, for proving that you will ignore facts.

That IS how I read the article. I've also read other articles where he is clear about why he performs LTAs. I have never read one where he says, or even implies, it's just 'chasing a lucrative market'. YOU are the one reading into it more than is there, and that is based upon your own prejudice.

Do you have NO ONE in your family that is a medical professional of some kind? Or a teacher, perhaps? Artists, of some kind? Or ANYONE who does something they happen to make money doing that they do for the love of it, or to help people? Of COURSE they expect to make money, but money is not their main motivation. What a sad little world you live in, that the people around you only do things to make money.

Yes, in fact I do. YOU are the one who seems confused. So, according to you no one who makes a living can be doing what they do from a desire to help people?

Again, it's a sad little world you live in.

Accident? Now you're just being silly.

My position is that he offers that service to help women, yes. That this is his prime motivation, yes.

And once again, you are deflicting. Explain how, exactly, his charging for the service means that the service is not rare?

You don't go through the expense, rigors, scrutiny, and pressure of becoming a doctor just to make money. There are easier ways to do that. Despite what you seem to think about doctors, they are motivated by a desire to help people.

Just becoming a doctor doesn't guarantee you;ll make money, btw.
