I ahve seen Office Parent 'lumber' around for years and always did wonder how he was able to perform his duties. Sure couldn't chase a suspect. Maybe if they made him walk a beat instead of in a patrol car eating donuts.

300 pounds......how did it manage to get that bad in the first place?!? Don't police officers have to take physical fitness tests annually like they do in the armed services? If not-- maybe they should. That is a ridiculous amount of weight for someone who needs to be capable of quick action; for instance responding to a 911 call where you have to get out of a vehicle and rush up a flight of stairs. If Parent can lose the weight, great-- otherwise what good is he to the Bellevue Community?

Late breaking news! Officer Chris Parent is back on the job after two years. He did not buckle under and lose any of his 350 lbs; but none the less he is back on duty. Perhaps he was hanging around at the local donut shop instead of getting himself into the required physical condition that the job calls for. Again, after being out of work for two years, he returns to work in the same chubby condition that he left the job in 2 years ago.

And, he has a fellow fat friend on the force, Sgt Matt Jarvis. Jarvis and another officer recently responded to a break in at a store. Jarvis needed over one minute to get his lard A$$ through the hole in the glass, in spite of the fact that his partner (not Chris Parent!) was able to pass through the hole in the glass within seconds. And, Jarvis had to put his gun down in order to pass through the glass, even at the snails pace that he finally did it at.

Of course; Chief John Stacy proudly supports his two portly policemen; even though Parent was unable to return to a standing position in a reasonable time after firing his weapon while on one knee in a firearms test; and Jarvis took over 1 minute to do what another officer did in seconds, and Jarvis had to put his gun down to do it.

Chief John Stacy agrees that physical fitness should be a requirement of the job; but he wants Fat and Fatter to be grandfathered in and exempt from the requirement.

If you watch the video from 5/5 you will notice his partner enters first and also places his weapon in the holster before entering. Jarvis actually fell on his ass due to the unbalanced weight shift, while leaving a automatic weapon laying on the ground outside his reach. very bad situation if the room was not clear. He is a situation waiting to happen on beat patrol for either himself, a citizen, or a suspect. Granted I am not fat at 5'9" 155lbs and 39 years young, but that didn't stop the majority of the police establishments from not hiring me due to past credit issues. I can lose weight without having good credit, but not get a stable paying job to reverse my credit issues, go figure. Nuff said , back to my counter for 7.25 hr

Sorry to hear of your credit issues. And, you are right, if the credit issues stop you from being able to get a good paying job, it will take that much longer to sort the whole issue out properly by paying down your dept.

But, the other side of that is that most Employers feel that someone with credit issues has a higher likelyhood of stealing from the company or of being dishonest. Of course, this thinking is not fair to everyone, because many people would still behave honestly in spite of their credit problems.

But, let's face it. A cop with credit problems has a higher likelyhood of taking drugs away from someone and either keeping all of them, or some of them, for resale. And, he has a higher likelyhood of taking a bribe from a criminal. And, he has a higher likelyhood of taking some cash to fix a ticket for someone. And, he has a higher likelyhood of stealing cash from a drug dealer. And, he has a higher likelyhood of stealing from his own evidence room. A cop in debt has a higher likelyhood of becoming a crooked cop. So, I think the credit rating of a potential candidate for a police position should count heavily.

And, I think that people who are too fat to perform their tasks to an acceptable level should seek a new career. In Parent's case, he had two years to get himself in better shape. It appears that he did not make much, if any effort. But he got his job back just the same. And, the Chief thinks that Parent's length of service should negate the fact that Parent is too fat to perform the needed tasks in the proper time frame. Apparently, the Chief is OK with Sgt Matt Jarvis being too portly to properly perform his tasks as well. The Chief sounds like one hell of a nice guy, but he may be putting his good heart in front of public safety. And that is potentially a very dangerous situation for the citizens of Bellevue.

Thank you for the considerate informative answer, I mapped out the credit issues long ago, but lost the desire to reapply for the position previously offered. I feel your answer is pretty spot on.

There is a new story out of Saint John the Baptist Parish in Louisiana. A Sargent by the name of Tommy Young Jr was stealing police property and selling it on Ebay. Once he got caught, he blamed finacial difficulties as the reason. This supports my previous comments about the importance of a credit report for hiring cops. A cop in dept is more likely to become a crooked cop. And, this nation already has plenty of crooked cops on the payroll. Anything we can do to reduce the chances of hiring another cop who will quickly use the mighty badge as a cover for illegal activeties should be done.

A credit check not only makes sense before you hire a cop; but it also makes sense to perform credit checks on cops after they are hired.

Maybe John Stacey job performance should be reviewed. Hope these two police tubbies don't respond to a emergency at my place. Can't believe old John would support these wienies, his Dad wouldn't have.

I don't see any inmates complaining about my fat butt. Mind your own business in your own State 'rider'.
