Belleville Restricts Trick-Or-Treat Age - Outlaws Sex Offenders

The city of Belleville has added some new restrictions to its trick or treating ordinance from 2008.

honestly, this is ingnorant. how are you going to distinguish between the age of someone? there are 12 year old these days that are over 5'5 and almost 6'0 . and how are you going to make it where adults who have children not beable to dress up and have fun with thier children? thats ignorant. i'm 20 years old and i still dress for halloween. masks and all. and if you think you can start arresting people for celebrating a national holiday, good luck with that.

Eckert now decides what freedoms and liberties the citizens of Belleville are permitted, despite a Constitution that guarantees otherwise. When citizens accept these socialistic principles of governing in seemingly inconsequencial levels, it opens the door for rulers like Eckert to subjectively decide on other guaranteed freedoms. This was first "tricked" into law via SO ordinances, also unconstitutional. Uneducated citizens bought that nonsense, and so, may deserve having someone like Eckert decide on if and when their kids can enjoy the freedoms of the U.S.A., but only as Eckert sees fit. During Halloween, 2010, kids will not be allowed to trick or treat unless their bags are imprinted with: Vote for Eckert. Sounds reasonable, huh?

What makes you think you can walk with your niece? You are not supposed to be TRICK OR TREATING, that means NO ASKING FOR CANDY FOR YOUR SELF.
Doesnt mean kids have to go out alone.

I have to agree with music critic. I do not live in Belleville, but have a 7th grader who is 14. I told her she was too old to be knocking on doors, however, she is welcome to dress up with the rest of us. My 9 year old will be the only one trick or treating. There are several different churches in the area doing fall festivals with costume parties. Families have more fun at those many times and youre spending time, quality time with your children, neices, etc. It also keeps people from raiding the local elderly and scaring them. We keep our trick or treating to our immediate neighbors and then we travel to grandmas for special treats. good times!!

Really It is hard enogh to be a kids for these kids in this day and age but to put more and more rules on Trick or Treating . So my 12 yr isnt a kid and to old to do this so should they be able to get a job drive or whatever No I see more of a chance to get in trouble with nothing else to do. Right Good one ill be watching the news to see how many kids got in trouble.

If the sex offender is convicted of a crime involving a child, they should have to put up a sign on their front door or report to the police station for the trick or treat time issued.

It doesn't say adults can't dress up, they just can't wear masks. Secondly, I think it's tacky when teenagers and older trick or treat too.

The law doesn't say your 12 yr old can't trick-or-treat. It says your 12 yr old cannot wear a mask or anything that disguises their face. Your 12 yr old can trick-or-treat until they are out of Jr High (8th grade or less).

Why should a bunch of high schoolers ruin it for young kids and nice people who want to hand out candy to little kids dressed in costumes. I see high schoolers trick-or-treating as ridiculous whether it is a law or not.

I agree with Music Critc. I think you could go out dressed up. Just don't knock on doors asking for candy. A lot of the parents in my neighborhood dress up, but they stand in the driveway or on the sidewalk while their children walk up to the door to trick-or-treat. Their kids are safe with them, and they still have the fun of dressing up.

I have lived in Belleville my entire life and I am a parent who has a teenager and a young child, I for one am all for the restrictions. These restrictions should have been in place years ago. It is putting into writing common sense that everyone should know but it seems that people don't have common sense anymore. If you don't like the restrictions go trick-or-treat somewhere else. Its that simple!!

I do not believe what our country is coming to an age limit on trick or treating and dressing up is rediculous. I am a mother of 5 and my youngest is 7 and I dress up right along with him and concealing my face is part of dressing up... This is absolutely rediculous in all areas. Where are our rights that so many people are fighting for and dying for everyday? Where has our holidays and traditions with our kids gone? If you have children that are trick or treating you should be with them to ensure their safety not just let them run the streets and it is more fun and holiday spirit shines through more when a parent can dress up with them. I am thankful I do not live in an area where someone has to tell me I can not dress up with my children or how to dress up. Believe it or not some people have common sense and want their children to grow up with traditional holidays. Who voted for them restrictions? Do they need to be evaluated for taking rights away from american citizens. I almost would dare them to tell me I could not do such a thing I would be seeing them in the supreme court if need be for trying to take my constitutional right from me
