my family and i are thinking of migrating from the west to there. could anyone help us out on great locations for homes. what the schools are like? we have 2 little girls... and maybe help us to the chamber of commerece so they could point us in all the right directions.

You must have lost your mind even considering moving from California to MV, Arkansas. I would suggest you explore other areas before making a decision to move to this podunk, back woods town where you will be a target for some of the locals who will seek out to rip you off by whatever means they can conceive. MV is a backwards racist and religious right wing Cult, and if you move there from somewhere else, you are not a part of it.

There are some who'll do nothing but talk bad about Mountain View as they've had horrible experiences. That can be found anywhere. We love it here.

With all due respect if you have a family with children, I would steer clear. Drug and crime with kids there have always been a problem unless things have changed since I left, which I doubt.

It is nice if you just want to settle down and live your life though. Nice area for hiking and outdoors if that is what you are in to.

Drugs in Mountain View and throughout Stone County are very accessible, and crystal meth is on the rise there. There is no diverse activities for children in Mountain View, other than baseball or football during the season. Other than those sports, there is really nothing for children at all. I would not want to raise a child there. It offers not much perspective in preparation for life unless one plans to stay there forever and not go anywhere else. I wish you well, however, if you have lived on the west coast, you will be entering a time machine in reverse going back about 100 years.

R U kidding?? this place is the most wonderfull place to bring up your children !!
we brought our children here from Calif. and it was the best thing we have ever did for them as well for us.
the people here are all very close and they are the village that all raise the children here.
I have never had to worry about my kids here b/c if they did even think about getting in to trouble I heard about it befor they even got home and you can bet that if somone in the county knew about anything brewing wiith kids they also step up to the plate and got on to my kids or any other kids that might be going down the wrong path or up to no good,its like haveing extendind family that truly care for the kids here!!
racist YES but all the more reason we need fresh voices to speak out and get some people to realize this is so alfull and so wrong and really is one of the only black cloud that hovers over this county but when I can I sure put my two cents in!! I am from A minority but you can not tell so I really get to hear what people say befor they find out they are talking to one of the very people they are talking about so its up to me right then to let them know how much they can hurt people with their words.I think it helps for them to see first hand how they can hurt with words.

I think you are right about younger children...but when the children get to be teens...there is not a whole lot for them to do...and that is when they get mixed up into the drugs. But...quite truthfully..that has gotten to be a problem everywhere.
This county does have it's pluses and minuses...one just has to sort thru and decide what they can and cannot live with. And you are right...one of the biggest blights here is the racism...but as more people move in and voice their opinions...that can change.

I for one love Stone Co.and think its the best place to raise kids!

as far as takeing drugs and smoking "dope"

I believe you are into psychological, communal and inbred enmeshment if you think Stone county is a great place to raise kids. I would agree it is a great place if you are attempting to raise a child with a very narrow and limited purview of life and the U.S. society in general. In regards to drugs and smoking dope, yep, I have extensive knowledge in my younger years, far in past, as I too was raised in a podunk small-minded country town where there was nothing for youth to do accept experiment with drugs in an attempt to escape the mundane existence existing in a community of worn out beliefs, coupled with the dried up culture that resisted any form of newness/change. Glad I survived through it, and would not wish the experience on any child.

Your perception is a matter of subjective experience, and time will tell how great your kids turned out, will it not? Hopefully, they will rise to the challenges and hurdles that a sheltered/narrow minded life may cripple them from dealing with, as their eyes are opened to the realities of the life experience.

All you can do is weight the various responses..do your "homework" on the Internet and come see for yourself. You and your family may really like it here and I support your decision to give it a try. Like I said in a previous post about drug usage...no place appears to be immune from the problem. the best thing that you can do is be the best parents that you can be and keep the lines of communication open with your children. You got that right, everyone will know who you are and are not when you roll into town. People there will know you are not from there, do not fit in there, and are unwanted there. Have fun in Mountain View. Bring alot of LSD with you in order to trip through your experience. I will tell you that the Northwest quadrant of Arkansas is a wonderful place in which to live. Check out Bentonville, AR, Rogers, AR and the Eureka Springs area. Anyway, good luck, and prepare for a time warp culture shock syndrome.
