So sad. My fiance talks about going to Frozen Cup since she was a kid. Not only the best ice cream but it's like stepping back in time. She says they still have the same display cakes from back in the 70's! Bellerose's own version of "Fudgie the Whale". Not sure how much business sense it makes for Days Inn either. There are already two hotels in a few block radius. Other than during the Belmont Stakes, people don't exactly flock to this area. And in a recession??? I wouldn't count on too many booked rooms!!! Frozen cup may keep people lined up but I don't see the same luck for yet another hotel!

Exactly the point we've been trying to make. The other hotel just built has problems filling up the room and we have heard that some of the rooms are being used for welfare. Bellerose is having a tough time maintaining its suburban like atmosphere what with all the overdevelopment that has been going on. Now one of our oldest landmarks is going to be destroyed because of someone's greed and lack of concern for the neighborhood and residents. Don't know why the final owner of the business sold it other than to make a quick buck. He didn't want to be involved with the community. All spring and summer there were lines around the place afternoon and evening. Could not have been because he wasn't making money. Maybe he just didn't want to have to work for his money -- I guess he preferred selling out the community instead. Sort of bite the hand that feeds you.

Is there any further news on the fate of our beloved Frozen Cup?? What else can we do?

I keep receiving petitions. Today I got three more. By end of week will write letters to go with the petitions. The developer will be at the civic meeting on 12/11. Think all those who are against the hotel should show up that night and be heard.

Hi Angela - I will try and make it. I've been getting home from work pretty late every day lately (but I guess I can't complain about being busy and having a job).

I only found Frozen Cup last summer -- what a shame that it is gone now. I can't imagine why the neighborhood would need another hotel.

It's all about money. Supposedly Checkers made an offer to buy Frozen Cup but the owner turned them down. The offer from the Hotel owners was higher. I would not have minded a burger joint there.

You are contradicting yourself. You keep saying you want to save Frozen Cup at all costs. Why would a Checkers have been OK?

Don't twist my words!!!!
I'd rather have a Checkers than a no tell motel in our neighborhood. You knew very well what I was implying! I did NOT want to see Frozen Cup go, BUT since the owner did not care about the community and sold it anyway - the community would rather have a food joint than a sleazy motel.
