What a waste of my tax dollars. They will probably spend it on booze or trips.

Carolyn McCarthy...Thank you for wasting MY TAX DOLLARS on this earmark noncompetitive "grant".
Does Bellerose actually need this money? Are their firetrucks rusting? do they not start when the bells ring so they can protect their whopping 1100 person community?
another example of a DO NOTHING, KNOW NOTHING politician.
Another Suozzi puppet.

a 200,000 dollar federal grant is a drop in the bucket when it comes to grants. before drawing conclusions do some research. You will find this is not such a large grant. Bellrose village has a small firehouse but a nice one. I hope they try to keep it close to the same style and design.

It's a village of 1100 people that basically runs 4 blocks, by 4 blocks. While it is a small grant, it is a colossal waste of money for a FD that maybe deals with 5 fires a year.

if the residents aren't willing to foot the bill, why should we? I thought earmark was a dirty word now. What political favor/vote did she give in return?

With a population of 1,100 people, this department's coverage area should be absorbed by the surrounding districts, not a recipient of a $200,000 Federal grant. We're not learning...

I wonder how many firehouses neighboring Floral Park has.

3. In fairness, the way Bellerose is situated (The LIRR forms its entire Southern Border with no underpasses), the FD in Floral Park has to drive all the way around and that will take a couple of minutes, which is important in fire.

Bellerose (Long Island) gets money to renovate a Fire House that does NOT need renovating, while a place that should be a landmark (Frozen Cup) will get torn down by greedy developers who feel that we need more hotels in the area. If Frozen Cup were located on the Nassau side, this would not happen.

How are they going to fit a hotel on that small lot? It's heartbreaking as I started going to Frozen Cup in the late 1960's.

The Bellerose Firehouse is one of the 3 smallest (look at floral park centre or plandome for smaller) in Nassau county. It doesnt need to be any bigger, but internally the station is in very rough shape. With extremely cramped and unsafe conditions for just getting into the truck or putting on ones equipment. A definite need to at the very least widen the bay for the truck.

It's very disheartening for the residents to say the least. We saw the preliminary plans - there will be room for only 6 cars which means that there will be a spillover onto the side streets which are already a nightmare for parking.

Frozen Cup is an Ice Cream Parlor on the Queens (city) side of Jericho Turnpike in Bellerose that has been there for over 50 years. It was sold by the original owners a few years ago and the second owner no longer felt like like continuing the business so he sold to a developer.

Did he actually sell it? I still see for sale signs and notice they are parking cars in the lot.

The original owner was this classic crusty guy straight out of central casting. He would never let girls work there supposedly because of his belief that they would eat too much ice cream. I always joked that there was a woman on the Supreme Court before a girl worked at Frozen Cup.

How much would widening the bay cost and wouldn't a $100 per household tax cover it? If this were a firehouse in Missouri we'd all be railing about what a waste of taxpayer money this is.
