I applaud Mayor Bloomberg's desire to lower the amount of traffic coming into Manhattan. We may not all be comfortable with the choices will will have to make when it comes to the envirinment. As much as I hate paying three dollars plus for a gallon of gas, that may be a great deterent to the use of gasoline. Between the effects of greenhouse gases on the environment and the threat to our nation's security caused by our dependence on foreign oil, few things are as important.
If we are serious enough to charge eight dollars per car to enter Manhattan, we should be serious enough to put that money toward lowering the cost of mass transit. We would all be safer if everyone took the train to the city rather than drive.
