My son brought over two pitbulls, beautiful sweet animals, Mom he said. The dogs were well behaved, minded commands etc. However a 'friend his wife and 3 year old moved in for a while. The dog was always watched or put away from the child while my son was home. Unfortunately the parents never made an effort to teach their child on how to treat and animal and neglected to keep track of what the boy was doing. Yes the dog attacked the boy after the child stomped on his tail and private part and yanked on his head and ears repeatedly. The dog was sleeping at the time, the child not watched by his parents.

I have known about 20-30 pit bulls in my 26yrs. Only one has been vicious and the owner of that one is now serving a very long prison sentence. If that tells you anything.

I recently(6 mos. ago) adopted a pit Bull. I was driving in a neighborhood near mine and seen him running stray. I pulled over to get his attention and as soon as I did he ran right over to me and started licking my hands. He then jumped right up in my truck. After taking him to the H.S. to get checked out and possibly indentified I decided to take him home, and let him meet my lab mix of about the same age(2yrs old). They got right to wrestling like brothers. They have been best friends ever since. This pitbull is the biggest sweetheart you will ever meet.

Pit Bulls tend to get a bad rap due to the way they have been protrayed in the media. Those that you see on the news and so forth have been trained to be aggressive and you don't see the love that they really give.
I or should I say our family just had a great loss. A police officer shot and killed our family pet because our beautiful, loving, friendly dog wanted to make a new friend. The officer lied to his superior and said that the dog charged him and there are witnesses to say otherwise. Of course we are just civilians so our word means nothing to the superior officer. It seems that our "Rascal" to the police is just a pit bull that doesn't deserve to be here, but the fact of the matter is he was a very loved member of our family.
Confused and don't know were to turn does anyone have any ideas?

I don't intend to start an arguement, but has any of you watched Cesar Millan's show, The Dog Whisperer? He works with a lot of fighting breeds of dogs. I agree with him. I have seen more vicious little dogs, like poodles and pinchers, etc that have bitten people and drawn blood. Do the neighbors of these dogs owners call for them to be put down? No. The majority of dogs, regardless of breed, can be controlled, if the owner is willing to work with the animal on a full time basis.
I am so sorry for anyone who has had a bad experience with a pitbull, german shepard, or any other big dog, fighting breed or not, and has suffered a loss. You only hear about the tragedies of these dogs, not the blessings and help they give to people. There are people and places that can help animals with their issues. Check into those. I really do think they help the animals and their owners.
So how many times have you heard of a poodle attacking and KILLING someone. HELLO

to Just Me: a pomeranian killed a baby not too long ago.

Pitbulls are generally very reliable with humans. Very few are aggressive to humans. But because of their history of being selectively bread to be dog agressive owners MUST be very careful when owning a pitbull so that it does not attack a small dog, or cat. The responsibility rests in the owner's hands.

All of you need to do some research on pitt bulls they are only aggressive if you make them that way i have one that was a stray on the streets of st louis and she is the best dog i have ever had she is like one of my kids yes i have five kids and my dog loves them and is wonderful w/them, so for those of you that think they are mean think again any dog will attack if they feel that you are a threat to them or if you corner them as a threat, so stop and think about it they are like people if you were in a corner and felt that someone was a threat to you what would you do, you would attack them.

First things first : Before you condem an entire breed - do some research. So many people are vigil anti when it comes to pit bulls and half of the people who are quick to make an opinion know absolutely NOTHING about the breed.
In the 1940's pit bulls were considered America's Nanny dog. Petey from the Little Rascals is - guess what? a pit bull... They were poster dogs for WW1 and WW2 and were used for finding missing soldiers. The American Pit bull known as SGT. Stubby is the MOST decorated war dog of ALL time. Some of the most famous pit bulls are known for search and rescue and their work in military services. The pit bull actually scores HIGHER then the average "beloved" golden retriever on national temperment testing scores.(As well as many other breeds) Half of the dogs identified in the media as a "pit bull" attack are not even pit bulls. Can you even identify the actual pit bull on this link?? http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findp...
Pit bulls do not have lock jaw.
Pit bulls make horrible guard dogs
People who get a pit bull to be human aggressive - are ignorant.
People who get a pit bull to make them mean - are cruel.
Pit bulls DO have prey drive. So do goldens, labs, setters, and basically any dog made for hunting.
Yes they were bred for bull baiting - and when that was outlawed pit bulls then began the sport of dog fighting. "Pit Men" who fought these dogs actually had to be able to walk into a ring and be able to stick their hands between two fighting pit bulls and pry them apart without being attacked. Any signs of human aggression was NOT tolerated and dogs that showed such were put down! These are not even like your typical doberman or rottweiler who's sole purpose is to guard and protect.
These dogs are the victims of media exposure and pure human stupidity. I have had the privilidge of owning 2 of the greatest dogs of all time who both happened to be pit bulls. One who would actually let my 3 pound chihuahua hang from her lip without even so much as a flinch. I am so saddened that instead of protecting the animal we are punishing it. By banning the breed you are punishing responsible dog owners who care about the breed and keeping them the dogs that they should always be known for. banning the breed does nothing. The people who run the breeds name into the ground care nothing for your breed ban. Or for the well being of these animals. They will continue the dog fighting but will neglect the animal to do so. SO thanks for punishing the responsible dog owners and allowing more animals to go abused and neglected. Take some advice from other areas who have found out that a breed ban does NOTHING to help the situation. Require ALL pits to be spayed and neutered, tagged, insured, and a liscense to own them, require a certificate from an actual temperment testing place and obediance certification for ownership. Fine the heck out of those who refuse. Dont outlaw a dog. The saddest thing I've ever seen is a report on tv about a "visous pit bull attack" to see the actual dogs in the bite ward of the pound end up being rot mixes instead. Had I known that Woodson Terrace had a breed ban, I would have never mad it my home.

To claim a pitbull is not predisposed to be aggressive is very anthropromorphic. ALL dogs are aggressive by nature. We continue to attempt to assimilate them to humans.

Years ago Rotweilers and ChoChows were all the rage in the "ghetto." And they were also all the rage on the "news." Its just the next thing. I am sure if you put some Irish wolfhounds in some rap videos, they will be the next "Killer" dog on the news.

If you want to avoid having a row with someone, get out and about as much as possible today so you can work off all your nervous energy. If you stay in one place for too long you'll be in danger of becoming moody, and possibly even a right old crosspatch. You might also lose your temper with loved ones who are being bolshie or who have the audacity to disagree with you about something. Lighten up, Cancer!
