Church of Christ in Rosewood is the one that is gone. I went there as a small child, so I don't remember much. It burned a couple of years ago...

I didn't know it burned. What did you think about the church? What about your parents? They probably knew my parents. They were probably slandered just like everyone else and didn't even realize it. Sooo sad. The preachers family was freaks. My mom never trusted his wifey.

How is it that some of the members of the cog won't pay their bills, but feels it is ok to spend their money to go to the cog camp(cult)meetings instead???? This has been an ongoing problem in the group...How can that be "just"...how can that be "Christian"????..... Just sayin'....

Woah! How did I miss out on this site all these years?

I won't say my name. If you were associated with the COG from let's just say the late '70's to mid-80's, you'll know my name. I would visit Mt Tabor often. Went to camp-meetings there for years. Went to Sylacauga, AL and Manassas, VA camp-meetings too. Visited Muncie, IN a lot.

I have some very strong opinions about the COG but I have family there and I have a fair enough relationship with them. I get as close as I can without letting them drag me to the altar.:-)

Oh man....this site. It's good to know that I wasn't the only one who went through what I will describe as "a lot".

It's called Freedom of Speech. I would think that with a site where you have subject topics, if a person feels compelled to post their opinion or beliefs regarding the subject, that is their absolute right.

I don't see anyone being mentioned by name. There was a general comment and we don't know who they are referring to specifically.

In my youth, I always enjoyed going to Mt Tabor but I was young, naive, and intellectually challenged. I wasn't one of the ones that were born into the church but I came to the church after leaving several other congregations. It seemed that each church we went to became progressively more and more restrictive.

I have no problem with the people of Mt Tabor. They were always friendly because I was one of them. I associated with the youth that were my age at the time and we always had good laughs.

I can't recall if we made fun of people or not, but we probably did. Many years ago, as I thought back on my life, I realized that while I didn't have the worldly possessions and didn't look like I was a part of the world, my attitude was one of superiority and while I proclaimed my humility, arrogance was seeping from the pores of my flesh.(Don't you love the use of the word "flesh"?)

To this day, I still use some of the core values that are acceptable standards for any Christian. I have a great love for the people that I grew up with, even if I disagree with the teachings of the COG.

Sometimes, when you're in a valley, you may actually think that you're in a great place. But oftentimes, it's when you get up on top of the hill and can look down into the valley and see where you came from that you realize what you were involved in.

I won't bash the church because that would be bashing my family. I say that I would love to disagree with their teachings but since they believe they have total truth, disagreeing is my loss and not theirs. So I choose not to discuss any church issues with them. It's the big elephant in the room. But it doesn't stop me from loving them.

I still think about the people that are in the COG. While I respect their right to believe what they do, when put to the test of truth, the fact remains that they are no different than many other organizations that use the words "church" and "God" in their name.

Just my opinion.

The reputation of the cog has plummeted down through the years. Many of the cog congregations have horrific stories behind them. The Muncie congregation had a big split in 2002 (which they have so desparately tried to keep quiet over the years) concerning "abuse" of young innocent girls in the congregation. Yet,even today, they go on as if nothing ever happened.....This is so very much like the cog.."hiding things under the rug"....Most of the testimonies and stories on this forum by the cog victims, though, seemingly unthinkable and unimaginable....are so very true....Kept quiet from the public...until forums like this came along....

So if none of you believe they are right, then who is right?!??!?!?!? All the other so called cogs I know "attempt" to have standards, which are little to none, but fail to with hold them standards because they cant hurt peoples feelings!!! At least mt tabor with holds standards And if you don't like them, too bad. I dont attend there, but I do want to thank them for with holding the right and true moral standards!! So if you could please explain to me, who is right?!? At least they all have something to prove in their lives..........

Whether or not the facts are believed does'nt really matter. Some will believe them....some will not......Plenty of folks KNOW the facts...but more importantly.....There is a God in Heaven who KNOWS the facts. The victims are more apt to tell the truth on the matters...than the guilty....
Also, WARNING the public of dangerous cults "among us" and the dangers of getting involved with them is not gossip. It's a responsibility......

Kyle is either a d!ck or one of them. Facts about their religion? Look it up. Facts about religion in general? Figure it out on your own. Facts about the abuse? Get real! Or get a clue. Or do a little bit of work with victim advocacy groups. Moron! You sound worthless to me. People like you perpetuate abuse.
