alabama hostage standoff....day 3
Police say they have talked through a ventilation pipe with the man accused of killing a bus driver & taking a 5-year-old boy captive in a bunker.
The boy, only known by his first name of Ethan, is believed to be coping with his imprisonment in a bunker some eight feet underground.

Midland City Mayor Virgil Skipper said he has visited the boy's parents.
"He's crying for his parents," Skipper said. "They are holding up good. They are praying and asking all of us to pray with them."
"There's no reason to believe the child has been harmed," Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson added.
Activity around the bunker picked up early Friday when a team in military-style uniforms, many with weapons, got out of a van and moved into a staging area. One appeared to be dog handler.
A neighbor directly across the street, Brock Parrish, said Dykes usually wore overalls and glasses, and his posture was hunched-over.
He will have to give up sooner or later because (authorities) are not leaving," the police said.....

MIDLAND CITY, Ala.-- More than 50 hours after being taken hostage in an underground bunker, a 5-year-old autistic child is receiving medicine, coloring books and food and is watching TV during a tedious standoff between police and the boy's captor, authorities report.
The Dale County Sheriff's Office reports that Dykes is connected to the anti-government survivalist movement.
Arrington confirmed that assessment, saying, "He's against the government starting with Obama on down."
"He doesn't like law enforcement or the government telling him what to do," the chief said. "He's just a loner."
A neighbor, Eben Rummell, Dykes was known in the the area as "The Shovel Man" because he would chase people and animals off his property with a shovel if they got too close.

The bunker, built as protection from tornadoes, has electricity and, according to neighbors, enough food for several months.
Republican Rep. Steve Clouse, who represents the Midland City area, said the mother told him that the boy has Asperger's syndrome, an autism-like disorder, as well as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD.

Too bad we dont have ole Janet Reno as US Attorney General anymore to call the shots as she sees 'em. She would have sent in army tanks to level that bunker and fry the boy alive five days ago. Lessons lernt from Waco.

Jimmy Lee Dykes boarded the bus on Tuesday and offered the driver what appeared to be broccoli
They said they had seen Dykes, 65, working on his fence, and described him as a menacing figure.
"He was very protective of his stuff," Tristian Singletary said. "Whenever he stares at you, he looks kinda crazy."
While Dykes, who was described as having "no regard for human life," has allowed negotiators to send Ethan's medicine, as well as coloring books, into the bunker for the boy.

Dykes had been scheduled to appear in court Wednesday to answer charges he shot at his neighbors in a dispute last month.
A neighbor directly across the street, Brock Parrish, said Dykes usually wore overalls and glasses and his posture was hunched-over. He said Dykes usually drove a run-down "creeper" van with some of the windows covered in aluminum foil.
Neighbor Michael Creel said Dykes put the plastic pipe underground from the bunker to the end of his driveway so he could hear if anyone drove up to his gate.
