This has been going downhill the last few years. Since the son was brought from exile, the rates for admission has going way up, they have banned alcohol sales, stopped allowing you to bring in your own golf cart and monopolized the rental of same. I really enjoyed it but it did get out of hand at times with drunks, fights and such. Then they lost the field trials recogition by allowing less than honest dealings with the judging and it was proven so that went elsewhere. I do believe the addition of the bands were a last ditch effort to save it and it just wasn't the draw they need. Kenton and Hardin County will indeed miss the revenue from the event so it will be interesting to see what comes next.
Maybe the Hardin County Coon Hunters can take it back over?

To set up there they were charging the food consessions $3000. The dogs only run only once in awhile. I have seen people from all over there and my family goes way back attending leafy oaks. The common consens is that the owners ruined it by their own actions, there was also rumors a church bought the property. Those folks were impossible. Good Riddinz Kenton National !

Kenton had a good thing going and let it completely go downhill. The last few years have been weak. I do know they move quite a few guns but so does WalMart. They priced theirselves out of a good thing.$17.00 to get in. Did they also charge for parking?? I could see paying the admission price if I were shopping for guns, but that price just to go take a look around?? Not really worth it IMO.
Hey, What's salt of the earth people?
HeHe.
And many of us are former military. You don't have a market on that line.
;)
it was only 12 dollars to get in idiot

I believe the price of 17.00 entry is correct, unless there was some skimming going on too.

I will always remember the times I had and my sons had at kenton,it gave my boys something to look forward to.my son would work every summer to save money just to go to kenton.I enjoyed spending time with him watching his eyes light up when he nagotiated a good deal and my youngest grew up wanting to go to kenton sleeping in a tent with his dad even though we have a 38' fith wheel they wanted to leave home.
Thanks for all the memories

do any of you have a clue that this is just another way of pushing the anti gun agenda ? The more of these they shut down , the less freedom you have. THE HOME OF THE FREE <<<BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE

Baddogjumping, Ignore this chump, it hates true freedom and has never attended the coondog trials anyway. Just another local loser who has smartass remarks for any question, asked by anyone, and they answer the same way every time, hatefully and ignorantly. Sorry, but we have a few nutjobs in Logan county maybe if were lucky they will open season on traitors of the good ol' U. S. of A.lol

This is what I understand, the guy that owns and puts on the Kenton Dog Trials has been convicted of a felony. Therefore he cannot promote or have on the premises guns, etc. I could be wrong but that is how I understand it. Max McClure who has an auction once a month and a couple of swaps a year wants to replace the Kenton Dog Trials either at his place or at the Allen Co. fairgrounds. I guess things are getting worked out now.

First I'd like to say, I am not a "redneck". I am a 52 year old college educated lady who grew up going to Kenton every year until 20 years ago. I took my son back about 8 years ago and was so disappointed. What happened to the field trialers???? What I saw was a national flea market with a few races thrown in on the side. I don't doubt what you all say it has become, but I choose to remember it like it used to be, a good family activity. A place where my parents took me for fun and where my kids grew up. The field trialers were our extended family. I miss some of them dearly. I guess what I really wanted to say is that I think somewhere along the line, after Eddie passed and Jimmy was there no longer, the whole point of having it in the first place was lost. In the place of something meaningful was just another avenue to make certaiun people richer. Eddie and Jimmy's whole concept was gone. Oh well, I still remember what it was like to go home with the trophy and be able to say, "My dog want pert of Kenton."

it went downhill when the old man died or let the kids run it.no gambling or beer sales ?they had to make a killing on vendor fees alone let alone admission fees.she's just to tight to pay out a little extra for insurance.i always looked forward to kenton every year the 40 years.i was there while still in my moms stomach and there every year since.

This Field Trial goes back to 1926 when it was held at the Fair Grounds. In 1947 it moved to Mt. Victory, OH for one year and then to the spot where it has been held until now in 1948. The event has changed much in the last 82 years. In the 50's the origional name was bought by Sem Hankins and Eddie Ross renamed it the Kenton Nationl but it is really the same event.

You know everything changes in life and we all have to adjust to it I have always loved going to kenton no matter what adjustments they made I didnt always like it and at times thought they could have done more to make it better but thats life just hope they can get something worked out at the same place would be a miracle for this year but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I was very disappointed to learn the Kenton Nationals were cancelled. I have looked forward to the event every summer since I learned about them 5 years ago. I mainly attended for the flea market. I have made money from purchasing and reselling items from the flea market every year. They had everything you could think of (except ammunition). I think this is going to hurt the local economy.

I will miss Kenton as much as the next guy, but you all have to stop complaining and find a new place to meet and start anew. There are a few different people trying to start a new "Kenton". I know nothing will be able to replace it but I'm going to the Lima fairground. There will be water races and a swap meet. here is a link to an article.
