SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN!

You all remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona , who painted the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb. Well.........

SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN!

Oh, there's MUCH more to know about Sheriff Joe!

Maricopa County was spending approx..$18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.

The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dog s off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.

The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million.. I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78.

The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.

I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs the jail system and copy some of his ideas. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand.

He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 -$8 for the holidays and plant it later. We have six trees in our yard from the prison.

Yup, he was re-elected last year with 83% of the vote.
Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border. He's kind of a 'Git-R Dun' kind of Sheriff.

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO..

HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF

AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER.

THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona ) who created the 'Tent City Jail':
**He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.
**He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails.**Took away their weights.

**Cut off all but 'G' movies.
**He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.
**Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

**He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails, so he hooked up the cable TV again.....BUTonly let in the Disney channel and the Weather channel.

**When asked why the weather channel, he replied, "So they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working
on my chain gangs."

**He cut off coffee since it has zero nutr itional value.

**When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't The Ritz/Carlton...... If you don't like it, don't come back."

More On The Arizona Sheriff:

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports:
About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued
pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.

Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their PINK SOCKS.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the TENTS for 1 year. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates, "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff!

Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers' money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

I apologize for all the cut and paste, but I thought many might find this story of Sheriff Joe to be very appropriate.

They use inmates at Union County Humane Society to help clean their place. It works. It is the cleanest shelter that I have seen in my life, and I have been in many shelter.

However, here in the fine Hooterville county of Logan, we had several years ago an opportunity to build a dog pound that would be cared for by inmates. A meeting was held at the JVS one evening, to discuss this issue. At the time, Allison Holloway was the executive director of the Logan County Humane Society.

I will never forget her comments in opposition to this. She stated that there would be SEX OFFENDERS who MIGHT handle those animals and that they might be abusive to those animals.

Well, what do ya think happened, even though her comments were idiotic, ignoramous, and incorrect? The public didn't like it.

But, she subsequently resigned her position as the Director to, in her words, SAVE THE SELTER, and schemed her way onto the BORED. I kinda like that spelling. It has sooooooo much more meaning.

As a BORED member, she lied to the new board members, all except her daddy and Gina of course who followed her like she was a CULT LEADER.

They got off the track and elected a child sex offender to the board. Big no no to anyone who has any morals. But could they make a deal with the county or city to have inmates go and clean the filthy dirty pig sty? No.

Actually, your idea is a very good one. A+ to you. You sound like you ought to be on the board, but those cult followers would probably see that as a threat to them. Don't forget, Allison is still a member of that group. Hopefully she will soon be forced out by the State for violations of Legal Fiduciary Duties and those several formal complaints that have been filed against?????????? They all want to know too much. They can always call the State and get some verifcation of that if they are in denial.

A friend sent me the same information that you've posted here. I saw Sheriff Joe the Fox News Channel a while back discussing this same issue.
Again, I say A+ to you for your progressive thinking.

From what we've been hearing here, I'd be afraid to let my dogs even watch on television!

I happened across this forum. It caught my attention because the Humane Society serving Logan County was a huge part of my life for many years. In fact, I quit right before Allison was hired as the director. I am not a fan of Allison, however, I am concerned about some of the things I have read.

First, what happened to bingo? I volunteered there every Tuesday morning and Thursday evening. It was a good way for the shelter to generate income.

Second, why are the police having to leave the dogs tied up after hours? Why are they not paging the director and having her come out? The warden should also have access to get in the gate. There used to be two outdoor kennels in the back.

Third, the new volunteer that talks about the smell because of the windows...you must not spend much time volunteering. Yes the windows do not open, however, there are vents in both the adoption area and the quarantine area that allow fresh air to circulate. If the kennels are being cleaned properly, the smell would be knocked down. I am not saying there would be no smell, let's face it, it is a room full of dogs that are not bathed regularly. It seems that the staff needs a course in properly cleaning dog kennels. I am guessing they are cleaning the kennels but not properly cleaning the gutters under the kennel that wash away the urine and stool. If they are not clearing that all the way to the grate before they "flush" the smell is going to linger.

Fourth, in all of the years the shelter has been around the Board of Directors have been an issue. ask any of the former directors. They all end up leaving because they are mentally exhausted by the time the county commissioner, city officials, board of directors, and the lovely citizens of Logan County are done with them.

Fifth, this never has been and never will be a no kill shelter. It is impossible. There is not enough space to house all of the homeless animals in the county. If the citizens of Logan County would get a clue and spay and neuter their pets it would help. The coon dog trials are also a huge issue for the shelter. People love to leave their losing dogs behind. Also, yo can stand back and judge those who have to euthanize these animals, but you have no right. This is an emotional and taxing task and no one takes it lightly.

It is sad that there is so much negative publicity for the shelter thanks to Allison and her antics. It used to be a place that cared about the animals and what was best for them. If you really want to see changes made, you need to complain to the county commission and the city officials who have a contract with the shelter. I am not saying it will help but it is worth a try.

I also want to mention that the person who talked up Robin from Home Away from Home Kennels never got to meet the real Robin. She was not the most pleasant person and she could be just as difficult as the rest of the board. If I remember correctly, Robin was part of the board that voted to hire Allison Vance-Frazee.

I called today about a cat that showed up at my house, & they informed that they are no longer taking cats. What the hell???? I don't feel that this is fair. What are we supposed to do with cats that ignorant people won't get fixed & then throw them out when they get pregnant? Something needs to be done about this. They are the only shelter in Logan Co.(which covers a lot of towns), and now they only take in dogs. I like dogs too, but come on you can't just abandon cats due to the irresponsibility of their owners. Then you call the pet stores & they only accept kittens 8-10 wks old....they don't consider that maybe not everyone wanting to buy a cat wants a kitten. Who do I contact to complain about this?

Just this past winter I had some stray cats & I kept calling them 2 days a week to see if they had any openings, & several times they told me to check back in the spring because they were making some changes...well they failed to mention that they wouldn't be taking cats anymore. All I can say is thanks for screwing cats out of shelter & food. It's pretty bad when strays keep showing up at my house & I feel bad for them since my neighbors set out poison. Yea, last November I had to have 2 KITTENS put to sleep since some cruel person poisoned them.

Call the vets in the area and see if they know of humane societies/rescue groups in other counties. Maybe that will help. Good luck.

When they said they are no longer taking cats, it doesn't mean they will never be taking them again. It simply means their cages are full and they have no more room. It sounds like they need to look at the current cat population and make some decisions. This is a prime example of why they cannot be a no kill shelter. Once they have room, they will probably begin taking cats again. I don't know this for sure, but from my experience with working at the shelter this is most likely the case.

I hate to sound cruel and uncaring when I talk about the shleter euthanizing but this is the harsh reality of the Humane Society and the lack of knowledge in the community. It is very obvious in the posts that I been reading that those associated with the Humane Society are not concerned with educating the public. This is sad because about 9 or 10 years ago the former director worked hard on going out into the public to help educate the community.

It's interesting this thread was started in early April 2009 over the discovery of the carcasses of a dozen skinned greyhounds and a dozen unskinned other breeds discovered in a small creek near the Humane Society shelter. It has been over a year, and no findings have been announced concerning that unacceptable behavior. Someone dumped biohazardous material into a local creek and got away with it clean as a whistle. Logan County upholds its reputation as a haven for crime.

When are the elections of Director? I worked directly with the director of the Union Co HS and had 'bully breeds'(that they cant adopt out) transfered to Hilliard, OH. I would love the opportunity and have an extensive history with animals for my age of 21. Lets get someone who can fight for links with other shelters since ours is in the middle of nowhere. Columbus "spayz" does cat spay/ neuter for $28/$40! I know the people working in that place are NOT doing their jobs. I have documents 6 months of calls/ complains of animal drop offs, abuse, and terribly witnessed CHILDREN killing newborn drop off kittens. So clearly we need a more energetic not political true face for animals in there!!

Hello friend! This problem with Logan County is quite old - just as I am. It sickens me to know how much time I and others have spent trying to help that place and the dogs, of course. All we hear is complaints of no money. Unfortunately, the place has a history of folks not doing their job, including that worthless Allison. I heard that she got her government job back with the state of Ohio. Maybe she will lose it in November when the Dems are booted out.

Many Logan County residents have tried to help in many ways with that place. The dumbasses didn't even get certified for the Rescue Wagon until they had pressure from others to do so. What the hell is up with that program?

The Commissioners wanted to build a dog pound to rid themselves of that worthless Allison, but she and her pal Tim put a stop to that with their lies to the public of all the sex offenders that would be handling the dogs if that happened. Well, guess what? Not only did the so called worthless dumbass board elect a tier III sex offender to the board who supposedly quit, they now have another teir III sex offender working there.

I think the State gives the place a kickback for hiring former criminals, just as they do with places like Wal Mart, etc.

There are folks out here willing to help when the right time comes, if that ever does happen.

When exactly did Allison still have an active role in the humane society? My understanding is she is no longer on the board and has not been active in at least two years. Why does she matter to this debate now?

Because she is the one who is most responsible for all the chaos, mistrust, misuse of funds, lack of accountability, for electing a sex offender to the board, killing of those Katrina dogs, and lies to the public that very much shaped the Humane Society into what we see today. And, by the way, she is involved with that place. I see her name on the email copies that I received from that place.
