My husband and I are looking to adopt a baby. We dont care about race or gender. We were told our best option was to find someone who would be willing to let us take custody and then adopt. You can email me at [email protected]

My wife and I have adopted four of our six children. I would advise starting with our local Children's Services. They have a wealth of information about adoptions. They can assist you in getting the necessary paperwork. There will be someone there assigned to information and adoptions. We chose to use a private agency for our two oldest sons, but much has changed in the past 20 years. We also adopted two daughters from China, but again much has changed in the past 9 years. If you are willing to accept a child with some minor medical issues, your wait times will me much less. They call them special needs children, but realize what is considered serious in another country is easily dealt with by our doctors. We have also had a very positive experience in this community with our two Chinese daughters. The schools and people in the church and our community have been fantastic. I have heard many similar stories from other adoptive parents here.

Costs and wait times can vary greatly between methods and different agencies. If you are seeking information, be sure the person advising you is giving you current information about the type of adoption you are seeking. There is also an Adoption Tax Credit available to qualifying couples. We are willing to assist you, but we have not adopted since 2005 so our knowledge is dated.

The internet has many user groups of parents who have adopted and are waiting to adopt. Just google adoption and see what pops up. Be aware than many of the posters on these groups have a more negative attitude than is really out there. People who have had wonderful experiences seems less apt to post than those who have had a challenge or two in the process. This is why I have reached out to you and posted here using my real name. There are thousands of happy, successful adoptions, and we have been blessed each time we have.

Yes, we would do it all over again. Our children are the most wonderful thing to ever happen in our 27 years of marriage. There are so many needy children in this country and others. Good luck in your adoption experience.

Peace be with you,

Scott Davis

Why did you choose kids from China over the US or Africa?
Who the hell would want an african running around? Why not a baby from one of the ex-soviet states? Plenty of Western/white babies need adopted.

In 2001 our daughter died in her sleep and in 2003, China was one of the only places to adopt a healthy child under 24 months and allowed you to choose a girl. 99% of the Chinese adoptions at that time were girls. There were very few children coming from Africa in 2003. Haiti would most likely be our choice if we were doing it today. Wait times for healthy infants from a US home was over four years in 2003. We were close to 'aging out' for an infant/toddler, so wait times were a huge issue for us. Once we adopted a daughter from China, we chose to do it again with the same agency because it had gone so well. Our two older sons are from Wisconsin and Ohio.

Do to the size of our family, we needed to be sure we could financially afford any expected or unexpected medical issues. As it turned out, we had undisclosed medical issues. All were successfully dealt with by the wonderful doctors at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, and the staff at our very own Discovery Center.

So sorry to hear that about your daugher. Was it SIDS? I can't even imagine.

Hope it works out for you. I look around at some of the people that have been blessed with children and wonder why they have been. I am praying there is a child waiting for you out there. Lord knows there are many that need a loving home.

It was similar but it is my understanding they don't call it SIDS after one year old.

Thank You

Feel free to contact me, we have been able to assist other families in getting started in the adoption process. Send me an email and I can reply to you. We have documented the adoptions on a website and I can send you the URL if you email me. I would say as little as possible on Topix. It can be a very cruel place. I rarely get on here any more, but when the word "adoption" comes up on it I get an email. Again, topix is full of some very strange people, and I would be very very careful about putting any personal information on here.

Good luck and I hope God blesses your family like he has ours.
