we all have one, share them. Lets pretend we are on coast to coast am- tell what has happened to you-here is mine-in sept 1994 we were living in an apartment in bellefontaine, we only had one daughter then. our bed was faced so that I laid by the door and mrs ugly was against the wall. one night i was sound asleep and all of a sudden something pulled my hair so hard it almost put me on the floor-the pull was toward the door so it couldn't have been mrs ugly. I ran out in the hall to see if our daughter was sleep walking and did that, but realized she was staying at her grandparents that night. for about a week after that i would wake up with deep scratches across my chest and arms, always toward the direction of the door, then it all stopped just as sudenly as it started. I never will forget that pain of how hard whatever it was pulled me out of bed by my hair, it hurt for several minutes. Needless to say, mrs ugly went to bed extra early every night to make sure to get the spot along the wall

Ok, as silly as it sounds I truely do have a ghost. Her name is Elenore and she died here in my house which use to be her house. She opens cubboard doors, walks up and down the steps and sometimes touches me. My wife was a non-believer until we got married and she moved in. Believe me she is a believer now. How do I know its Elenore, because when she gets to fiesty late at night I say Elenore please stop making noise and she does everytime. She may have even saved my life because one time I had worked a double and was very tired. I put two pork chops in the oven and fell asleep at the table. I heard a loud bang and woke up to a kitchen full of smoke at least two feet thick at the ceiling. Later I realized what I think caused the noise was the oven door being closed. Just for giggles I opened the oven door and let it go and sure enough that was definately the noise that woke me. She was a very nice old lady and very missed by all who knew her and as dumb as it may sound I feel lucky to have her here and this is still her home to.

I like to think that my mom's house has an "Elenore." Sometimes cabinet doors in the kitchen will open. And some nights Mom swears that someone is standing over her while she sleeps. But my husband has his doubts.

I lived in a haunted house, and at the risk of sounding crazy, will share that story. Back in 1972, my first husband and I, and our 3 little kids, rented and moved into an old farmhouse outside Wapak. There were only two other farms besides ours on that road. On night #1, I was awaken at 2:00 a.m. and heard a man and a woman "fighting" down in our kitchen, as well as the sound of pots, pans, and dishes being thrown all around. I tried to wake my husband but he was a sound sleeper and didn't hear a thing, so I got up and flipped the hall--way light on. I figured since the house had been empty for a long time before we moved in, maybe a group of teenagers found it to make a dandy little place to hang out, and maybe they had broken in thinking the place was still empty. As soon as I flipped the light on, the sounds stopped. I listened for running footsteps and a door slamming shut, but nothing! I looked out one of the bedroom windows that looked down over the drive, but couldn't see any car existing the farm. Eventually, I was able to get back to sleep even though feeling perplexed. That next morning the sun was shining, which made me cast everything off as possibly being a bad dream. The kitchen seemed to be in the same condition as we had left it after moving in--- the pots and pans were still in boxes and there were no broken dishes laying around. My husband went outside to burn trash and empty boxes as I started putting things away in the kitchen cupboards and getting the kitchen in order. I sat down in the dining room to take a break, and as I looked into the kitchen, I saw this plastic dish-pan rise off the counter by itself! Inside it was one jar of home-grown canned of tomatoes that my mother-in-law had given us. Needless to say, I was frozen....I couldn't even manage to scream as I saw the dishpan circle around the kitchen with its tomatoe cargo inside. It circled a couple times about 2 feet from the ceiling, then built up speed, then crashed into the wall. The jar of tomatoes broke (so you can imagine the amount of force it took to do that) and the dishpan bounced off and landed in the middle of the floor, and tomatoes ran down the wall. I was able to let out a scream after this, and my husband ran in to see what happened. I was panic-struck, and said I wanted to move, but he said that was impossible because we had spent most of our money painting and moving, so had no choice but to stay. It was then that he confessed that the painter he had hired weeks earlier to paint the rooms upstairs had told him while painting a room one night that he kept hearing footsteps and strange sounds downstairs, so got so freaked out that he ran to his car and left. He refused to paint after dark after that. I then had no doubt that the place was haunted! This is a long post and will take a couple more to finish the story. Hold on.

Do continue, HB! The part about the canned tomatoes running down the wall is especially convincing. I'm going to eat pizza during intermission. Be back in a flash.

Like most old houses, the bathroom was right off the kitchen. I had my washer and dryer hooked up in there. At times, we could hear a baby crying where the washer was located. My mother-in-law walked out from using the bathroom one night and her face was as white as a ghost after hearing the baby cry. Sometimes we would hear a window slamming shut, foot-steps downstairs and in the basement, every morning my aquarium pump and light would be un-plugged, and on a few occasions, blankets would be yanked off us when we were asleep. There was one spare bedroom upstairs that I would get physically nauseated every time I went into it......it just had a creepy feeling, so we kept it empty and maybe stored things in it once in awhile. Plus we could hear strange sounds coming from it, like huge rats scurring around. My husband was a truck-driver so would be gone sometimes for 3 or 4 nights at a time. One night when he was on the road, I was reading in my bed. The closet door started to open and shut by itself repeatedly, and each time it would slam shut harder than the last. I laid in bed watching it do this about a dozen times knowing a draft was not causing this because all the windows were closed. Instead of making me scared, it made me mad! My kids were in the next room, so I yelled out, "Stop it! You are going to wake my kids up and scare them!" After I yelled this, the door slammed shut one final time with such force that it sounded like the wall had fell down. Continued.

It was then that I got curious, so went to the library in Wapak and read about every book I could on ghosts and haunted houses. Some of the books were written by Hans Holzer, a reputable author who happened to be known a the "ghost hunter." He explained that sometimes ghosts don't realize they "are no longer in the living" so think of us as strangers messing around in their home! They get aggravated because we can't hear them and think we are ignoring them, so end up throwing things, making noises and slamming things around to get our attention. He suggested we talk to them....sounds crazy I know, but tell them we mean no harm, they are welcome to stay if they want, and even go so far as to tell them that they have died, so the house is now ours. So, I took his advice and started talking to them, and soon all the activity stopped----with the exception of the aquarium getting unplugged each morning! For whatever reason, it must have annoyed the heck out of them. Things then seemed about normal and no more disturbances. That next Spring, 2 old spinster sisters from across the road came over and brought me some flowers from their garden. We got to talking, and they said they had been born and raised and had lived all their lives on their farm, and had known about every family that lived in our house. Then they preceded to tell me about the last family who lived in the house years before we moved in. They said that family lived one tragedy after another. The couple had lost a 2 yr. baby from an illness which caused their marriage to go to pot afterwards. They fought all the time. The husband had a fatal heart-attack and died in the house. About a year later, the woman was found upstairs in that spare bedroom I described above. She had committed suicide by hanging herself! I have no doubt that it was this trio who haunted the house.

Yes, I am familiar with this group. They had a seminar last year at the Logan County Library. They are better at investigating than the crew on Ghost Hunters.....JMO.

I have driven by the house several times over the past 20 years when I was in the Wapak area. Several families have lived there since we did, and renocvations have been made to the house...plus someone has built a gazebo in the side yard and tore down the old barn. I have noticed that no matter what family has lived there, that same bedroom up-stairs is always empty and not in use----never any curtains up to the window and I could see boxes and other items up against the windows which looked like they were using it as a storage room as well. Each time I drive past, I always want to stop, introduce myself and tell them I lived there back in the 70s, and ask them if they have had any unusual experiences in the house. But I always chicken out for fear they might think I am crazy. lol. I'm really curious if the ghosts might still be there, or if they may have moved on since then.

Thanks for sharing Hummingbird! I know some people who have claimed to of lived in a haunted house but I have never experienced it. The only thing I found odd was having to tell the ghosts that they were dead! How would they "not" know they were dead?

Back in the 70's I saw a dude die in a Tri Sport race on the 1/2 mile track at a fairgrounds and the other day I went and saw the horse races there.
In the first race the #2 horse made some sudden mistake and the start was recalled, then on the final lap the horse reared up and fell at full speed on its side throwing the drive out of the race bike.
The horse was spooked in the same spot where I saw that 70's dude die.
