Does anyone know who is in charge of the Christmas decorations downtown?

I am curious to know because if George Bartholomew were still alive, does anyone think he would enjoy having a plastic Christmas wreath flung around his neck from now until New Year's?? That is the absolute tackiest thing I have ever seen a municipality do as a "decoration". Two years running, this tribute to a noted local person of interest has been defamed by this stupid wreath around his neck.

And the greenery on the construction fence around the courthouse lawn? Really? Maybe if they had enough to go all the way around......

Anyone?

I haven't been downtown. I have to agree with the plastic wreath around the neck....West Liberty is looking nice. Todat was a good day to decorate, not going to plug in before Thanksgiving.

Ethel, maybe you should contact the Downtown Business Association and volunteer your time to help.

Maybe I will. In the mean time, can someone tell me who thought it was a good idea to denigrate an historical monument?

I miss the days when the large pine tree graced the court house lawn and they lit it up with multi-colored lights. I am so tired of all the plain white lights anymore. It would be pretty to have one block done up in green lights, the next, blue, the next red, and so on----add some color.

I believe it is the garden club who does the planters in the summer. I saw members of it working hard last week. In the past few years, they decorated early because the city was going to lay off workers due to budget cuts, and they needed those guys to help with the more difficult decorations. I find no fault with their decorating the fence since the courthouse is in such a mess this year. As for decorating the statue, what is wrong with a little whimsical touch? Lighten up or volunteer to do the decorating. These people are volunteers; be grateful that they are willing to beautify our city.

Who's in charge?

That's all I want to know.

Thank you.

Remember Ethel K has no life outside of Topix. She needs to be complaining about something to be happy. With Obama winning her another four years of handouts and all through the night and gay reindeer couples jumping fences in her sleep, she only has the hapless city leaders to complain about.

In a different time when America still had a set of hair covered balls, instead of posting jabs from the anonymity of her nicotinic covered keyboard, she would walk (hobble) down to the city building and ask what she could do to help.

It burns my wick at both ends when people who wouldn't lift a fat finger to help, condemn those who did.

Bah! Humbug!

Wrong on all counts, but very well written.

So, let me ask you....do you think that particular decoration is in good taste?

A simple yes or no will do.

I think George looks rather festive myself, and I thank the ladies whom give their time to decorate. The courthouse is a problem this year, I think they did the best they could. What makes the difference who is in charge unless you personally want to thank them !!! Merry Christmas to you Ethel !!

And a very Merry Christmas to you. And will give my thanks to those who donate their time....but, rethink the wreath, please!

I didn't know George personally, and I have no idea whether he had a sense of humor or not, but if I were he, I would be more upset at having a statue that is only 4 feet tall than I would by having a wreath around my neck. I believe it is the Rake and Hoe Garden Club who does the decorations. I can't imagine that you would want to fuss at them. It's just like letting your child decorate the Christmas tree; you might not like the placement of the ornaments, but you know they were placed with love. Let it go.

Haha. Very funny.

You know, I don't think my OP was rude, just expressing an opinion and seeking information. Isn't that why this site exists?

Thank you to those who provided an opinion and information. The rest of you can bite me.
