I am helping my sister plan a fall wedding, and we are looking for someplace nice to hold the reception. She has been watching all the wedding shows on satelite t.v., so she has her heart set on someplace really bright and cheerful, not drab and dreary.. she has already checked places like the Elks and the Moose, but they werent what she was looking for.. Does anyone have any ideas? She would like to keep travel distance down, so that narrows her options a lot.. within 20 or so miles of Logan County is what she is hoping for. We would be greatful for any suggestions!

The last 2 weddings we went to they had the reception at "Tree Links" golf course. One of my friends is going to have her daughters there next year and I guess they have a place outside that is really beautiful. That is probably the nicest place in Bellefontaine.

I have heard that, we checked out their website, and it is gorgeous! I know they cater and serve drinks, do you by chance know if they allow you to bring your own food and beverages?
Thanks so much!
Thanks for asking

Anyplace that has a liqour license isn't going to allow you to bring your own alcohol for a reception.(Tree Links, Moose, Elks, Eagles) The grange hall doesn't allow alcohol, not sure about the alcohol at the Senior Center.

The Eagles has a huge basement they rent out, not sure how much. Private entrance, been there a few times and the looks of the place depends on how much decorating you want to do.

the only "bright and cheerful" places I can think of would be.....

1. Tree Links Golf Course - for an afternoon reception there is lots of natural light that comes in, as three sides of the room are all glass.

2. The Huntsville event center - Sandy Musser, owns this venue, as well as the Whitmore House.... Sandy can bring big city class to Logan county. I have did weddings that she has catered before and she is great to work with, as well as the food was good too.

3. Friendly Senior center - you can bring in your own alcohol for an extra deposit. You will need to bring EVERYTHING of your own, if you plan to use their kitchen. Rumor has it that getting your deposit back can be tough, as they provide nothing for you to clean the room with, yet expect it spotless (bring your own mop and broom)

Now this next one may be out of the distance range...... Woodruff Enterprises on Urbana Rd.(old us 68 near navistar) in between urbana and springfield. This place used to be a car dealership but is now the home to a trucking company and auctioneer.... never mind that.
The showroom is surrounded in glass and is an open space for your event. I drove by there last monday and it appeared to be setup for a reception or banquet. To picture this place, look at Anderson Ford... cause they look the same. Hey, you may contact Anderson Ford... I know that a school held their prom (or after prom) there this year.

Honestly, there are just not that many great classy event spots here in logan county that won't break the bank. The Winter Family Barn is $1,000.00 to rent.

I would NOT reccommend the eagles annex at the lake, especially if you have the eagles do the catering. I attended a wedding reception there this spring. The catering staff, as soon as dinner was served packed up all the food the bride paid for into plastic tubs and LEFT!!! They provided no forks for the cake - Sorry but when you hire catering for your event, it is just that FOR THE EVENT. The staff was very unprofessional, smoking in the kitchen doorway, rude to guests.

When you have worked and/or attended a lot of weddings you will start to notice which vendors have their act in gear and which do not.

talking about mad river mtn.... Keep in mind the loft is UPSTAIRS, no elevator except maybe a dumb-waiter. Also you would want to check and be sure that it even has AC (i mean it was built as a winter only location) Another alternative, if it is still available; the alpine room. I have not been to mad river mtn in forever, so I am not even sure as to what facilities they have out there.

Karen's Kakes and Katering in Marysville (yes, they are spelled with a "K" in her case) does a GREAT job catering. She did my sister's wedding a few years ago. Even decorated the place for us in a Cinderella theme, and it was beautiful.

I've also been to the Winner's Barn just outside Bellefontaine on SR 47W a few times. It turns out to be a very beautiful reception with very little decorating. You might want to check with them though, as I heard (rumor) that they weren't going to have receptions there anymore. Good luck!

I've also been to a few wedding receptions at the YMCA, and they were really nice. They have a no alcohol policy, but didn't stick to it!

I am pretty sure they have a list of caterer's that you can choose from. You cannot bring your own food/drinks.

I have a friend that ownes a cottage on Brush Lake. It is absoutly beautiful. They will work with you on the price. I'm not sure what the actual rates are, but I know it varies depending on the services you would want. They have had a lot of receptions there and other parties like babyshowers, bachlor, bachlorette parties. It is in the country, very easy to get to, and again very beautiful.

How would you go about getting ahold of the owners of this cabin? Do they have a website or email address? Thanks!

There is also the JVS and Adriel School. You can rent both of these places and the receptions that I have attended there have come out beautifully!
