What are your thoughts on the mayor's race? I'm an independent but I'm thinking of voting as a repub for the primary because I DO NOT want Marcus St. Clair to be the candidate against Brannon. Marcus is affliated with Christ Our King and I think the pastor and his "followers" are quacks with a cult-like mission. I know several nice people that go there but it seems like they are brainwashed...who really has to provide their proof of income to determine the amount to tithe? I'm a good Christian, but I believe it's between God and I about the money I give for His church. I really don't want CoK to have direct access into our local government, to run as they see fit. Between the other two candidates, I'm pretty indifferent, just do not want St. Clair to get in. Anyone else have an opinion of such?

No one shows "proof of income" to tithe at Christ our King. You might want to check your facts before posting something that isn't true. If you are going to try to get people not to vote for someone, you might want to at least provide truthful information.

I don't want to make this thread about Christ our King church- it should be about who is the best candidate for mayor. Still, I would hate for someone not to vote for a candidate based on lies about his church. So just a few thoughts and then I hope this discussion can turn to who is the best candidate to help revive downtown Bellefontaine and bring businesses back!

-I have attended COK since returning from Seattle as a very broke, single mom of an infant. I did not have a car, a job, or any money. I can personally attest to the fact that COK was much more interested in what they could give to me (physical needs and beyond) than what I needed to give back.

-It makes me very sad that lies get told to make the church appear like one of those places that the offering plate gets passed around while the leaders beg for money and guilt those sitting in the building. Nothing could be further than the truth!

-MANY (countless numbers of people) are fed by COK. Many who attend are without jobs and need much assistance, which they readily and happily receive from the church. Food is given out, bills are helped with, and people are assisted in getting their lives back together. That's truth. Trust me- I know from experience. COK even has a "free store" that people give clothes, appliances, furniture, etc to so that when someone has a need they can get it met FOR FREE.

-Yes, people do tithe at COK. You will find in every church across the county that tithing is a regular part of their church service. No one announces what they have given and no proof of income is taken. That is just silly. People who attend COK are GENEROUS (with God and with each other- one of things that drew me to the church in the first place!) and they are generous because they love God and see that the investments made (largely in people's lives!) are well worth it. Tithing is not something COK came up with- its in the Bible. And those who have a problem with it, have a problem with the Bible- not COK or Pastor Ricks.

-One other thing I would like to say in terms of COK being a "cult" and how money is spent... though it was never advertised or done for show, about a year ago COK paid off the mortgage of another church in the county. Not a church its associated with- in fact, one that is quite different from COK. The mortgage was several hundred thousand dollars and it was paid because COK is NOT a cult that believes they are the only ones going to heaven, but because it matters for the Whole Church and All Christians to love and support one another.

--AND FRANKLY I THINK IT WOULD BE A BLESSING TO THIS COUNTY TO HAVE A MAYOR WHO THOUGHT LIKE THAT!!!---

If Marcus St. Clair is the kind of man who believes that when one of us win, we all win... and that it counts to be a blessing to others and that it is important to help out even those who are different than us- then he has my vote! Can you even imagine how that mindset could change our county?!?!?

So let's discuss the facts and vote on them.

You call yourself a good Christian but you get on this thread and say things about a person and the church he attends. I attend Christ Our King as well and I have never been to a church that spoke as little about money. No one has ever asked about our income nor even hinted at how much we should give. If you would meet Pastor Ricks, you would see for yourself that he is an amazing person with a special gift. We've never been offered Kool Aid either.

I also attended COK at one point in my life. I can honestly say, the original poster hit the nail on the head. Pastor Ricks is an arrogant jerk, who thinks of himself more highly than the rest of the congregation. I WAS asked to show proof of income so that he could tell me my 10%. I'm sorry, but I made it through college so I can figure out my own 10%.

You can obviously tell the last two posters clearly drink the COK kool aide. I DID go there, I KNOW what I experienced, and I SEE how Robin acts when he is out in public. My girlfriends and I were at lunch one day when Pastor came in with his groupies (Zell, St. Clair, and two men I didn't know). Pastor Ricks literally yelled across the restaurant to someone that worked there that "he was in a huge hurry so she needed to hurry up and get over there" and he hadn't even sat down (which is why the server hadn't quite made it over). I felt terrible for the server bc the group was so rude and demanding! Then, they proceeded to sit there for more than an hour after they finished, just talking. If I hadn't quit going to COK prior to that, I certainly would've stopped after that display he put on. No Christian should act like that but especially not a pastor!

Keep COK from having a direct line into our local government-DO NOT VOTE FOR MARCUS ST. CLAIR.

Only in Bellefontaine....narrow-minded ness. Shame on you all. If you have a personal axe to grind with Mr. St. Clair, so be it. Do not bring his church in on it. There are no voting booths as Christ Our King as far as I know. I also tithe 10%, not because the minister asked, it is what is printed in the Bible. Not all goes to the church, it is my civic duty and family duty to help in any way I can. People are homeless and hungry in our community. Are YOU helping in any way besides giving advice in whom to vote for? Get a grip. I am so disappointed in everyone encouraging people to run for political offices, then bringing out all the dirty laundry that has no bearing in how they are going to handle the position in which they are being voted. Do you actually feel better in trying to bring the man down? I would rather have God on my side than satan!!!

So true Jenny, I agree with everything you have said. I know some members of the Christ Our King church. Also many other churches. Someone finds fault with everyone.
If you read bio on candidates they often state their church. The important thing is TO VOTE.

I am always curious why some people with such strong opinions hesitate to put their names on their opinions? If you are not ashamed of what you have to say, then why hide behind titles like "hmmm"?

And I agree with the last two statements.. let's discuss the ISSUES going on in our county and who can offer the most in terms of businesses, finances, and a plan to revitalize our town. I am interested in their plans and platforms, not whether people on this forum like their church or their pastor.

Anyone have information on that?

Yeah this town is really broke. Drive down to the south end of town any night and try to find a nice easy place to park at any of the restaurants. Then head to Wal-Mart and see how empty their parking lot is. LOL this town is really broke.
