I am not bad mouthing them. I do not know their circumstances. I was just stating to some of the posters that this is not a new reality that has happened under Obama's term. It has been like thisfor years.

Years ago, when Community Market was still Troutwine's (I think that was the name?), I worked at Northern Floral. I hated it. The place was freezing which, of course was necessary, but on top of that my job required me to have my hands in cold water all of the time. It was horrible, but I had to pay the bills and eat, right?

Anyway, one day after my shift I needed groceries so I stopped at Troutwine's. There was a woman in the check out in front of me with four kids. I knew they were her children because they called her mom but she basically ignored them when they asked her something. I just noticed this because I stood there waiting a long time. She had a LOT of stuff in her cart. The children were filthy. But she was immaculate. Manicured nails, styled hair, designer clothes and she had a Coach purse.

And when she pulled out food stamps to pay for her groceries, I couldn't believe it. When I walked out of the store the kids were still loading the groceries into the car. Guess what kind of car it was? A new Cadillac!

I remember that day like it was yesterday because all the way home I wondered how that was possible. I wasn't angry about it like I would be today, just naive and sort of confused by the whole thing.

That was my first experience with abuse of the system. I have witnessed many, many more instances over the years and even worked in another job where I witnessed it on a daily basis.

So, yes, notice is correct. It has been happening for many years.

It really is silly to say it's Obama's fault. However, I think the poster who said that may have just been trying to stir the pot.

some people do abuse the system. however, abusing the system does not make you rich. the way i look at it, it makes less people that i have to compete with on my way up. if they want to barely survive life, it is their prerogative. worrying about how other people live seems to consume a lot of topix peoples' thoughts. but that's ok. keep worrying about other people while i keep pushing my way to the top. suckers

Bluto, I get your point, but I would hope you get mine.....yes, there are people who truly need the help and that's fine. Temporarily.

While you are working your way to the top think about this. You know that money the Federal government takes out of your paycheck every week?

It would be a little less if so many people weren't sitting on their ass in front of the tv all day, every day, calling you the sucker while you are hard at work, supporting them.

why would someone barely scraping by with government handouts call me a sucker? they are the ones that are broke and taking handouts. there is nothing any of us can do about the money stolen from our paychecks. it might you feel better to come on here and complain about it but it doesn't put the money back into your paycheck. looks to me like our government is doing a good job keeping its people occupied with things we can't do anything about while they keep stealing from us.

How do you know so much about her business and exactly what she is getting a month? Jealous much?

Alright. I can see now that it will not be possible for us to reach middle ground.

Good luck with your climb to the top.

Ok, using the example above..how do u know it was her cadillac? I use my dads range rover all the time, and i go to the store and use food stamps. Man u ppl would just looovve to see that! Things aren't always as they seem. I also manicure my own nails with white finger nail polish Nd scotch tape...$2 total for a years worth of French manicures. Ppl ask me all the time where i get my nails done. They are amazed when i say i.do them myself. So before judging or thinking u know the situation, think about what i just said. Yes my parents have money Nd nice cars, and just bc i borrow their.cars does not mean i am rich. And i make my nails look nice nd professionaly done for pennies. Just bc i.dont look poor doesnt mean that i am not. If i run around looking poor, i will never have a chance of it in this world amd off of assistance. And before ppl run their mouth about my dad having a range rover and i do not have a car..i am grown and my dad didnt get rich by giving his money away. So just like my dad worked for what he has, i have to do the same.

Welfare fraud and abuse has gone on for years unchecked, under all administrations. The difference now, with this President, is that if you make it to the top, you will find the people on the top will be on welfare. It will be harder than ever to get to the top come 2013, because your taxes are going to be through the roof.

That is correct. "There but 4 the grace of God go I." The thing is though, why do these kinda folk most always vote for demos such as OBLAMA? Do I hear "SANTA CLAUSE?"

Explain to me why I we have to put up with this. I just left Speedymart a little while ago and stood in line behind some lady that had four big bottles of king cobra on the counter, a big bag of roll your own smokes tobacco resting on top of them and an enormous pile of junk food. She of course paid cash for the beer and tobacco then used an ebt card for the JUNK FOOD and did all of this while texting on her IPHONE. It just really pisses me off.

I don't know that it was her Cadillac. I did consider that it might not be. And I also considered that the Coach purse may have been a gift. And that like you, she may have done her own nails. And cut her own hair.... And maybe she was just a bad mother, and didn't actually have so many kids to collect more money. Believe me, when I said the whole thing confused me, I was telling the truth.

But I was very young then. Over the years I have become more jaded, but also wiser. If you put all of that together, it points to abuse of the system. No, I can't say I am 100% positive, but I am also not naive anymore.

You say your parents are well off, yet you borrow their expensive vehicles to go to the store to use your food stamps. By the way, I used the term "food stamps" because that is what they used to call them.

Odd that you wouldn't say "EBT Card".

Anyway....did they not offer to help with, at the very least, tech school, so you could get a good paying job and wouldn't have to live off the taxpayers?

Of course this is not right, but our nation is in a "culture" war, & folks like you & I, are losing that war. We traditionalist are too divided among ourselves to even be swerious contenders. The November election shows that.
