I agree, Renne, that they should be paying attention to your safety, but I am also glad that they took care of this before someone was hurt.
Good job Riverview School officials and Police officers! I'm glad everyone is okay. |

Umm Renne, please tell me how you think they could search 1500+ students daily? Why is it their responsiblity to make sure that teenager act responsible? Teenagers should already know right from wrong-they are old enough to make correct choices. Your post shows what is wrong with today's society-why is it someone elses job to make sure you do the right thing? The person at fault is the person who brought the gun to school. The gun was stolen from a parent by his son, the son gave it to another student because they were fighting with other students. The parent that owned the gun called the school-now I think he should have called the police, but at least he did something.
And for your comments about the police officers, they are now pulled from other crimes to "babysit" these kids. Because 1500+ students have to be searched AGAIN today, because one little creep decides to take the law into his own hands-what is wrong with them talking and laughing? If they were acting differently, someone would whine that there was police brutality. Our policemen put themselves in harms way everyday, thank goodness they can still find something to laugh about. God bless school administraters and teachers everywhere who daily have to try and teach in these conditions. We are all responsible for our own actions, no matter what has made us that way. |

Bellefontaine Neighbors USED TO BE a nice place to live. To all the gang-bangers, rappers & street thugs...thanks a lot for screwing up yet another neighborhood.
Give 'em all guns & let 'em shoot it out until there's no one left! |

i agree kendra!!!!!!! renee is the appitamy of what is wrong with our society!!! "Its not my fault the police shot me" "its not my fault i dont have car insurance and i drive every day" --guns have been around for over 150 years and schools for over 150 years too ..but only in the past 15 years do we need police in schools with metal detectors... why is that???

better than the little girl who was arrested for bringing an empty 12 gauge shell to school 4 show-n-tell

I so agree with you, I loved it in Bellefontaine Neighbors in when I first bought my house here 8 years ago, but I swear it seems like Bellefontaine is so greedy for the tax dollars that they're letting anybody move here now, I know I won't get what my house is worth, but I'm seriously considering making a move. |

I am a rgsd teacher, everyday we deal with weapons and violence...and thats elementary. When do we hold parents and their children accountable??? If you start early, children then understand expectations and consequences.

"but I swear it seems like Bellefontaine is so greedy for the tax dollars that they're letting anybody move here now" - LOL, they're letting just ANYBODY move there? the nerve of them LOL

I know for a fact the the City of St. Louis Middle and Highschools students wait in two lines to go though metal detectors, and every lunch and book bag is also searched by staff and the security officer. Even me as a parent coming in the building also goes though the detector and my purse is also searched. It makes for a longer wait, but it might be worth it. |

i do agree that they should be held accountable for there actions and the district is the one who has to enforce that, which has not been done until the last year. you have a student bringing a loaded gun to school and gets suspended for 5days until a hearing , then you have a student who says something that a teacher doesnt like and gets the same suspention, now that makes no sense to me... both are wrong but they need to set higher consequences for those who are actually endangering the safety of others.. riverview gardens should be able to expel this kid on the spot without a hearing or anything else. yes the hearing can come later to make sure there isnt another under lying problem and that can be done with the law enforcement but there needs to be more expelled when it comes to serious and i mean serious issues. teachers, staff members and students shouldnt have to be in the middle of all this..im just thankful that there seems to be some change in the school district. it is way over due and a long time coming that the district finally take control and actually care enough to make a change..most students are going to get away with what you allow them to get away with, if you dont enforce harse consequences, not just a few days suspension.i thank the staff and teachers for making sure that everyone was safe.. job well done in my eyes. |
