Good for that school. Too many kids are sent to school with illness, lice, scabies... And the parents are given a slap on the wrist. The Bethlehem school dist has stopped sending kids home due to lice because there are so many kids with it that they'd never meet their attendance goals if they didn't allow these children in class.

I know, lice doesn't mean that the children are being neglected. Lice can happen to anyone. But there is no excuse for not doing something about it. Medicaid pays for the treatments. So I don't want to hear that they can't afford to treat it.

My children got it while in day care. Man was that one of the most stressfull times of my life. I was obsessed with cleaning i washed my sons crib sheets seven times. I packed everything up and went to the laundry mat. I would not wish that on my worst enemy.

Terminate her Parental Rights IMMEDIATELY. Those kids are in serious danger.

Parents are more worried about going to work or not having to bother with the kids for the day than their health and wellbeing.

Could it be that her employer didn't allow her the time off from work to watch her children while not in school, or was unable to make arrangements for them to be cared for, and had no other choice but to go to work or lose her job? Just an alternate theory....

She basically was saying that she didn't want to take care of her children, so I think it's time to permanently take them away and give them to someone who will take care of them. How can a mother not care about her childrens health? I can only imagine how filthy and infested with who knows what her house is!! That is just digusting.
I know I may get ridiculed for this one but...I wonder where the father is. He's not mentioned at all in the article. Even if she's a single mom, it's still no reason for not taking care of her children. My husband works at a minimum of 14 hours a day, that leaves me with my 3 children basically by myself on a daily basis, and my kids are always clean and well taken care of. Sorry lady...no excuses!!! It's just pathetic!

Terminate her parental rights over lice? You people are amazingly harsh or have your ivory tower way up there! Maybe she tried (unsuccessfully) to get rid of the lice. With the amount of shared custody in this day and age perhaps the kids kept getting re-infected at dad's, grandma's, daycare... Lice suck, but it's not a terminal condition! More harm was definitly done to those children by locking their mom up! I think mandatory parenting class would be way more appropriate!

Maybe that is true, but could she not have gotten them treatment while she was home, maybe in the evening?? Someone must have been around somewhere...I don't even care if you have to take them to a clinic somewhere to get them treated. Nothing should be more important than taking care of your kids.

Yes, lets pass the blame to someone else. My pediatrician has Saturday and emergency Sunday hours.

May I ask what daycare? I live in Pen Argyl..I don't want to ever take my kids there. You can just give me initials if you don't want to give me the full name. I'm sure I can figure it out. Thanks!

When I was registering my daughter for kindergarten this year the school nurse was handing out pamphlets on lice and she was telling me how in the past two to three years they've been seeing more cases of it because the over the counter stuff isn't working that well anymore.

Mother of three, That was harsh. It doesn't matter if she is married or not. And as Just A Thought said may be her employer would not let her go. I worked at a Nursing Home. And nothing not even my kids were an excuse to call off or leave. Maybe this woman had decide between her job ,which feeds and clothes her kids and being fired. Not everyone can be a stay at home mom. Some of us have to work to make ends meet.
And the kids having lice has nothing to do with her house. How do you know if her house is fithly. Lice can strike even the cleanest kids.
I think it is time for you to get off your high horse.

Let us open our hearts, our hands, our minds and accept "different" cultures and "ways of life" of alternative lifestyles. Perhaps this individual enjoys the company of parasites. Think about it, and maybe we can liberally respect that.

I had to send my child to school sick plenty of times because I go to school full time and have no one to watch her and can't afford daycare or even a baby sitter.

About a month ago my daughter had a stomach virus and I had to send her to school because I had exams and my teacher could care less that I had a sick kid. She told me I either showed up or I failed the exam. I felt horrible, but it had to be done.
