I'd be interested in knowing who furnished this young, underage man, with liquor. He took the life of a 24 year old newlywed with his irresponsible actions.

As a friend of the family, this tradegy has touched so many lives as I am sure is the same for the Ellis family. Responsibility, Blame, Compensation, Restitution, these are all words that come to mind. Even if all these were accounted for the fact that a beautiful lady, a mothers best friend, a daddy's little girl, will be so missed. My heart goes out to Mary and Richard. Keep your faith in God , he will get you through this and take comfort in knowing she is his angel now.

As Jessica's mother, I have a few things I'd like to say in regard to my daughter's death. Whomever furnished Mr. Ellis with alcholol holds joint responsibility for my daughter's death. I hurt for Mr. Ellis and his family. I can only imagine the pain and fear they are experiencing, as well as guilt at what their son did. I pray for them, just as I pray for our family and friends who are suffering. Nothing can bring my daughter back. However, we all must accept consequences for our actions. Someone provided Mr. Ellis with alchohol, knowing he was underaged and driving. Mr. Ellis, although only 19, was more than old enough to know that #1. he had no business drinking and #2. he had no business driving after drinking; and #3. he had no business driving at an extreme rate of speed after drinking. Did he run to the scene of the accident after he struck my daughter's car to make sure everyone was alright? No. He sat in his car and finally got out and walked to the front of his vehicle to see what damage was done. Then, he called out to ask if everyone was okay. During this time, my child was drawing her last breaths in her best friend's arms. You ask how I know this information? Eyewitnesses. Am I angry? You damn right. Am I bitter? You damn right. Do I want him punished? You damn right. Try having your 24 year old daughter murdered by an irresponsible, drunk, speeding driver and then and only then, will you have walked in our shoes. Our entire family has compassion for Mr. Ellis and his family. However, this young man can not be allowed to kill another Jessica.

My heart goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Paige, Brian, and all of the family and friends of Jessica. I pray for you all and hope for justice and that this man never again hurts another innocent person. His stupid, irresponsible, and ILLEGAL actions killed the life of a happy, wonderful woman who was living life to the fullest. He should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. I feel for his family as well, as im sure he has brought them more grief, pain and disappointment that they didnt deserve. But Jessi is gone and the pain her family feels is never going to compare to that. This sorry excuse for a "man" and his selfish actions have forever changed everyones lives who knew Jessi. RIP Jess.

As the niece of my precious mary dismukes paige and dear uncle richard paige..i just hope mr ellis gets life in prison at least.and never gets a chance to marry or have children..he took my cousins life to soon, she was married 2 months and we will never get to see her have her first little babies like she got to see ours...we will hurt forever over this and we are all damaged because of it...we cry everyday for jessie and heartbreak only hits the tip of the iceburg for us,everyday to us seems like a nightmare to all of us...i do pray for his family and him because he will have to answer to The Lord for what he did and i am not the one to be his judge. yes we are angry, hurt, and devastated..and we have to stick together as a family and fight for justice, jessie can't,,but we sure as hell can.

Why not just kill or imprison every male in the state? Oh yeah, the "system" is already working on it.

Uncovering the Prison Industrial Complex
by Abbie Illenberger
Spring 1999 As the South Goes...

The Prison Industrial Complex. A daunting, sterile, technical name for a system of government institutions, corporations, policies, technology and cultural attitudes that is rocking our communities on a daily basis. Like many of the crises we face today, this system - which includes prisons, police, and the militarization of the border - impacts our communities in many ways and has complex and deep roots. In addition, there is a very real desire for safety in our communities. The promoters of this system have done their best to use the issue of safety to confuse us - dividing us against ourselves and masking the true nature of this new "prison industrial complex."

In order to bring real safety to our communities and win justice for those who are trapped in our criminal justice system, we have to unmask the prison industrial complex. We have to organize ourselves based on an accurate understanding of what it looks like in our communities and what drives it. What makes it work?

Private Prisons: Punishment for Profit

The Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), based in Nashville, TN, has the largest share of the private prison "market". In 1997, CCA was one of the most successful companies on Wall Street.

In 1998, their annual revenues were $462 million and their net profit increased by 57% to $53.9 million. They claim 54,944 beds in 68 facilities in 4 countries.

1983 - CCA is started with major start-up investment from Honey Alexander (wife of then TN governor Lamar Alexander) and Ned McWherter (then Speaker of the TN House, later became governor).

1985-86 - CCA spends $1 million lobbying to take over the entire TN state prison system. The opposition, led by a labor and community coalition, forced the legislature to table the privatization legislation.

1994 - CCA finds a new way to build and operate prisons in Tennessee. They contract with Hardeman County to build and operate a county-level facility. The county then contracts with TN to house 1500 state prisoners and CCA turns a profit on those prison beds. CCA builds another prison in Hardeman Co. on speculation - wagering that there will be enough prisoners that the state will make another contract with the county.

CCA's prisons are the largest employers in Hardeman Co. The county lies on cotton-farming land in West TN. Its population is poor, rural and majority African American.

If there were peace, there would be no crime and there would be nobody to profit from it. What I posted is far from ignorant ( a misandrist would not understand )

Excuse me sir or madam, what does this data have to do with the death of my daughter? I am neither ignorant nor a misandrist. I do not hate men. However, would it be alright with you sir or madam if I'm a wee bit upset that my daughter was violently and needlessly killed? Would that offend your sensibilities? Would it "go against the grain" with you sir or madam if our family wanted this young man to be justly punished for killing our child and wounding her best friend? Is it too much to ask sir or madam, that perhaps you could even try to imagine the pain a family suffers at a time like this? Or perhaps, sir or madam, you are a resident of said prison system. Or perhaps, sir or madam, you have a family member who is a resident of said prison system. I am a grieving mother. Please shove your sanctimonious baloney elsewhere and not down my throat.

At least the family of the young woman will get justice. The courts in Gainseville Florida allowed the woman who, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, murdered my dad by swerving on his side of the road and hitting him with her car so hard , his body came down in pieces. She was allowed to walk free, while laughing at his death and his mother, who died from grief days later.

My condolences to you as well. I am so sorry to hear of your father's death, as well as your grandmother's. It is disheartening to know that such an act goes unpunished. As to whether my daughter receives justice, well that is yet to be determined. As you said, nothing will replace her. As you very well know. May God grant you peace.
