6 hurt as elderly woman smashes into La Mirada restaurant

Officials say six people were injured when an elderly woman drove her car into a La Mirada restaurant as people were eating lunch.

Hold it. Would you say "Six Hurt as Illegal Alien Crashes..." or "Six Hurt as Black Woman..." You get the point.

because age.. time and again, is a common factor in these accidents.

Would I say Black woman, Asian, bla bla... no

would I have said Kid if it was an 8 Y/O in moms car... yep

Would i have said blind person if they were blind.. yep

because those are physical conditions that ARE a factor.

Fact is that time and time again, elderly people are doing this..

Well, I suggest that the "common factor" referred to may be that age is mentioned in accidents ONLY when an older guy/gal is involved and creates the impression that it is therefore a cause. It could well be that old folks are LESS likely to be involved in an accident. By mentioning the age in every incident involving only us old fogies that image is created.
