In all fairness at least it sounds like the guy is a competent city manager. What is LA paying it's mayor for costing them millions through his incompetence?

The writer says that council members should get paid $400 per month? Isn't that several steps below welfare??

I don;t even have to read the article. The answer is no because no" public servant" should be paid so much. None. Moe in the porivate sector? Try it buddy. The city manager of Bell is a highly paid scumbag.

Of course, you're completing obfuscating the issue.

Let's hear your defense of a cash-strapped city of 37,000 people paying these kinds of exorbitant salaries for city employees. If you were a citizen of this community, would you be ok with that considering the L.A. mayor and police chief make a little over $200K annually? Do you think that is a good return on investment?

Are you just trolling?

I live in the City of Bell, All this time we are getting the news that the City has no money for our kids. Now I see why. In our baseball league our kids are getting less and less. This year we got a $5.00 dollar shirt and a $8.00 cap. because we have no money.

All of our city officials should be investigated and put in jail as the city officials were from the city of South Gate a couple of years ago.

If this was such a big deal and it has been going on for years and the residents know and have no problem with it why does the L>A> TIMES care. You didn't answer my question would you give back 780,000 back and keep 20,000 because your such a good soul?

WOW - Are the City of Bell Residents that dumb?! Over $7,000 for a part time volunteer job of being on City Council?! To me that is much worse than a highly paid City Manager

Council Members are PART TIME.$400 is $200 per meeting - sometimes, they read their council packets and then show up for two meetings amonth. The city manager runs the city. Check what Hawthorne, Gardena, Hermosa, Manhattan, Redondo, El Segundo, etc. council members make.

The City of Bell salaries are out of whack because the electorate is comprised ofsemi-literate fools and the city's cash cow is a casino.

The article doesn't say when the city was broke. As far as I know, Bell has been in the black since the casino was approved. That had little to do with whatever trained monkey is sitting at the manager's desk.
