I have lived in Karnak for awhile and I think it could be so much more than what it is. Empty building could be bought and made into something for people to do in this community. Do we not have any civic clubs or anything for people to join and get this town going? Who do you go to in order to find out? The mayor seems kinda snotty and really short with people, I heard some say she is a B**** and only likes certian wealthy people. The people on the board, most I know and they seem to be doing a good job but wouldnt they be the ones to help build this community? All in all it seems to be a pretty quiet and content community to live in.

I see this is an old post but if the person who wrote it is still interested in joining a civic club/community support organization contact Joey Dunning the fire chief.
The Junior fire fighters organization has been revived as well as the fire department auxillary. There is an effort in the plan to revive the civic club. The records from the old club were given to the mayor. They are public records and the plan is to get them from her and get it up and going.
I would like to help you but I am not putting my information on line. My daughter and son-in=law were on the village board, however since the mayor did not like my daughter (she made her accountable) she started going to church to recruit the so called "Clique" of the village and successfully got my daught out of office. My son-in-law has two more years but that does not matter as the mayor and her cronies make decisions on their when he is not present.

By the way after the fire departments recent successful fundraiser the mayors comment to them was "You got your selves some publicity and raised money. Just don't blow it and make us look bad" So much for encouragement from a power hungry perverted female who smokes in the fire department garage and is above the law or so she thinks.
This retired professional nurse and activist is going to report on line every thing this person says and does. This is a Democracy not Hitler Germany!

I have Known Janice Wright for over 40 years. Lived there for most of them. Apparently the glasses your looking through are foggy. This is not the lady I know. I was born and raised in Karnak, I know the people of Karnak very well. Karnak is a nice place to live. If not for my job out of state I would still be there.

I have been on boards before and it is the board that makes the decisions not the Mayor or Village President. As I recall the Mayor / Village President only gets to vote when there is a tie.
When a Board member is not present that would be his /hers Decision not to be there to vote. There has to be a quorum present to conduct business.

AS I who knows all, I would get out of town or run for the board or the mayor position. But we can do the easy thing, just set here and sling mud and gripe. Seems the thing to do.

Thanks,
Ka-Chow!!!!

The only person with the foggy is the person who is several hours away and was not at the meetings that those of us attended were.
Apparently you are okay with the leader of the town ending a "Public Hearing" asking a village trustee (after he committed to find an answer for an unknown because the previuous mayor did not leave the records) "Oh was that when you and he were cross-dressing and smoking Pot?" If that is your idea of a great acquaintance of 40 years heaven help us. That great person you remeber had this to say after the fire department VOLUNTEERS and TEENAGE Junior firefighters had a very successful fund raiser o0n the same HOT DAY they were called out to fires, "You got some good publicity NOW 'Don't Blow It!' and make us look like fools. That is a real professional dedicated way to kill the enthusiasum of the 14 teenagers who are enjoying the mentoring of the people who risk their lifes as volunteers for the mayor INCLUDING three members of my own family. LAST BUT NOT LEAST as I said in another forum Your friend the mayor has a habit of driving off the village police officers. And the one before the last one (who lasted less than a month) was a young nice looking PROFESSIONALLY EDUCATED young man from northern Illinois who moved to this area because he found the love of his life was asked by YOUR FRIEND the recently divorced mayor,Quote" "When is the last time YOU has sex?" Now if that is the what you call a wonderful mayor and old frien well you know what they say "Birds of a feather flock together!" THANK GOD you are somewhere else. And as far as people like me helping out. You have no idea what I do to help both financially and hourly work because the real caring people do not want their horns blown or pictures in the news. That is reserved for the volunteers who are insulted by the pervert mayor. I will continue to attend meetings when I am not at work and I will put the journals on line like they do in McHenry County Illinois. Do us all a favor and stay where you are at.We don not need your uneducated, hypocritical presence to help degrade our teenagers with your hell and damnation words.

To Pegib and Silver Bullet. You need to get your facts straight and tell the truth. I don't know but it sounds to me like the fire deaprtment has blown things in the past and Janice just wants things to go good. I hope that you are not putting your young teenagers in harms way as it sounds you want them to lead the fire depaartment. Youth is good but they also need good leaders and they need to learn to lead by example and you both are setting ugly examples because the way that you deal with things is get on the internet and lie and turn stories around to suit yourself. Poor kids. Now as I am very knowledgeable of the law you need to tone your crap because you are fixing to get into more trouble thatn you ever thought and what example is that for our young firefighters. This is actually not phasing Mayor Janice but the people including myself cast our vote and voted Janice in after 4 prior years of doing a good Job. Keep your Mouth shut and run against her in 4 years. You are not very intelligent as someone has already pointed out the Mayor does not make the decisions the board does. I feel sorry for the son-n-law on the board if he has to deal with your crap after every meeting but evidently the Peole of Karnak wanted him in and let him do his community service in peace. Maybe you two need to invest in some HORMONE THERAPY sounds like a HORMONE problem to me.

Another fine example of how people can't keep their nose in there own business. It is so nice to get a phone call to tell me I have made the internet! Karnak Citizen - YOU my friend need to get your facts straight, I don't go by pegib or silver bullet, You can actually call me Jen Pratis. I have NOT posted them posts so therefore you need to tone your crap and keep your mouth shut. I will be the first to say that I don't agree with Janice and some of the things she does, but I have also stated my opinoin to her myself, maybe that is why she don't like me, because I will speak what is on my mind to your face. So if you have a problem or want to start shit about me go ahead, it won't be the first time and I am sure it won't be the last time. As far as my husband who is still on the board, you can leave him out of it, he has done nothing to you or anyone else. Sure I was voted off the board, but hey, at least I know I was honest and truthful when I was on the board, which is the reason why I needed to be off, cause I made sure everyone was accountable for their actions. So if you have a problem with me, I would suggest you come talk to me, because if you are very familiar with the law as you say, I am sure you know you will find yourself in more trouble than its worth if you want to drag my name into this because you "Think" I am silver bullet or pegib. So again, I ask that you know what you are talking about before you decide to start spreading rumors. You want to know my opinois on things just ask, I am not afraid to tell you or anyone else.

One thing I left out Karnak Citizen, as you put it in your post the son-in-law, apparently you think that is either my mother or my mother in law posting on here too, So I would suggest if you think it is them maybe you should ask them before you start assuming things, cause you know what they say about it when you assume: = Ass U Me

I don't recall mentioning any names except Janice so get off it I don't even know who you are Jennifer. I am not starting anything I am just defending a good hardworking Mayor that someone seems to have trouble with and doesn't know what they are talking about. So Silver Bullet is the one that posted that her son-n law was on the board so go figure. I am done playing this game and I suggest everyone else stop the crap too it is getting old and ridiculous.

I know many of these people, too. I know, from years of experience, how much of a challenge it is to make progress even under the best of circumstances. When anyone is willing to serve in a small community where everyone knows everyone and its very easy to get at cross purposes with others, we should be grateful. No one's perfect - no board is perfect - but this kind of communication is what makes people unwilling to serve. You don't get rich doing it; if you had friends when you started, you may not have any when you get finished; you may have obstacles to confront you that you have no control over; you may make mistakes and admit them, but no one hears you admit them, only remembering that you made them. This town, like so many in small town America, is struggling. There are many things that are right about this little burg - the fire department, junior firefighters, three great churches that do the best they can to love and support people; a community that comes together when the chips are down and people are in need; town maintenance men who come out day and night, cold and hot, rain or shine and get the job done when in many larger towns, when 5:00 PM comes, you, the citizen, just have to wait. Not the case here - Richard and Jared are super. Yes, we will always have things that need to be addressed - but that's life in any community. I appreciate the fact that I can feel safe and have neighbors that care about me and my family and call when things don't seem to look just right or when a strange car sat in the driveway for too long. Any of us can find fault with anyone else if we look long enough. The electoral process is just that - people electing people. Some win, some lose. The next time, someone else may win and someone else loses. Been there, done that - but as long as I have the freedom to come and go, the health to do what I have to do, and the opportunity to choose - I'll be grateful.

Karnak has never had too many thinkers when it comes to the fire department, speaking of the main brothers property when it burned down the fire department couldnt do shit about because the damn truck was out of water when it arrived, and when my neighbors house caught on fire the attic exhaust fan they use to pull out the smoke was out of fuel and noone brought the gas can so i hope they have some good experience running the fire department and training the youths, and joey would not be my first choice the dunkins aren't that smart

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Scorpio

Let the past stay in the past for now. Even though you may have fond memories of intense experiences, the Virgo Moon sees to it that you have virtually no desire to go there again just yet. This is your opportunity to show others what you can do in a more civilised environment. Don't try to shout down someone who is rude enough to interrupt. As unlikely as it may seem, the softest voice has the biggest chance of being heard today.
