Enough with the making Aurora look bad, I think it is time to push for improving the Town. While some still want to take revenge for being wrong about some things, I want to make this Town better. even though I was not elected as mayor it doesn't change my mind about growing Aurora and since it seems so many people arund town have seen this web site I am going to try and use it to advance the Town. First, I want this thread to be constructive and degrade into name calling and such. Give me your ideas about improving the town. What is needed? Think about the big picture. I will share some of my own along the way but I first want to hear from you and then we will talk about the details to make it happen.

oops! that is not degrade into name calling
thank you |

Jeff you are right, enough is enough. As we all know the ethanol plant is coming soon. One problem that Aurora has is not enough housing for the workers at the plant. Look at how many people live 15-30 miles away and still work here. I am open to any ideas.

1)Housing
2)? Don't be shy, the goal here is to improve the town. |

Focusing on the good points of the town. The housing is a little cheaper there. What services the town could offer in close prominity to the town. Also, even though you now have the pizza place, attracting some other food chain to come to Aurora. The Dollar Store seems to be doing well also.

Okay, so Aurora needs a hotel/motel and a full time restaurant that serves three meals each day. The town can also begin now by having some clean/up-fix/up days to make things look better and more attractive for the residents as well as visitors. These things can best be done by the townspeople cooperating and working together.

1) Housing
2) Aesthetics 3) Hotel/Motel 4) Restaurants 5) Town Services offered outside Town limits Keep them coming and then we will narrow the list to five. |

1) Unity
2)Beautification 3) Promote growth of the things we have to offer;( ex. a fishing pier) Jeff I really think you have something going on. |

Regarding promotion of the things we alrady have: How about revitalizing the Nature Trail along Bailey Creek and promotion of the History Museum?

Let's all get along and we can get things going in Aurora that everyone can be proud of.53

I think we need to look at what might actually bring someone to the town. What makes towns around us succeed that we don't have? We're never going to be a boater's town, it's too much of a pain for a boat of any size to come here even if we had accomodations, when they can stop at Oriental, or go on to Belhaven. We're not on the way anywhere, so Hardee's and McDonalds aren't coming. So what is our draw? I agree we need to make the place look better, but no one is going to come to Aurora because it's clean.

And I don't even know where Holly Springs is...

1) Housing
2) Aesthetics- Beautification 3) Hotel/Motel 4) Restaurants 5) Town Services provided 6) Unity 7) Promote what we already have here These are not in any ranking order just a list. We will develop the list then size it down to five. we will then discuss the details of making those five happen. Don't get hung up on whether or not you think it can be done just focus on will it grow Aurora!!!!!!!!!! The list is looking good but maybe we need to think a little outside the box??? |
No one has put recreation on the list. Two of the biggest developing attractions here in Aurora and Richland township are South Creek and the Pamlico River.
The list looks great,BUT,
1) which comes first housing or the people 2) what type of aesthetics(trees or brick walls) 3) the motel will be built at the same time the ethanol plant is being built 4) more restaurants will pop up when the jobs get here 5) the town services are already inplace along w/ county water 6) unity is a mind set 7) We promote Aurora with how we represent our town on a daily basis. |

JLH,
You see where I am going. Almost everything on the list is a result after people come here. In the 200 census Aurora was one of two towns in NC that were labeled in regression. You can't attract anyone to live here if the possibility of housing is slim to none. However, there are ways to get housing started in areas such as Aurora. Check this link to the USDA http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/rhs/cf/brief_cp_gr... A great start to growing Aurora would be a program like this one. |
I again ask the question, To grow Aurora we need to....
Think about the question this way. What do we need to attract people and businesses to locate here while we are in the spotlight of the ethanol plant announcement and forthcoming groundbreaking? I believe that it is not the responsibility of the government to make people live or to make businesses locate here but to create an enviroment that entices them to want to be here.(The Graciousious Host) So what needs changing to entice development? Having brought three to the area and continuing to recruit I have some ideas but first you.
You have worked hard and continue to work to bring about a positive change for the future, never lose sight of all your accomplishments. I do think Aurora can have several of the items on the list in the near future.
