The 10-year-old Bozeman boy killed Sunday when a passenger car struck his four-wheeler on U.S. Highway 191 has been identified by the Gallatin County coroner's office as Alex Mitchell.
A southbound Ford Crown Victoria was traveling at about 60 mph when it struck a four-wheeler carrying two boys crossing the road at 11:21 a.m.
Mitchell was pronounced dead on the scene from blunt force trauma, Deputy Gallatin County Coroner Roger Layton said Tuesday.
A 16-year-old Belgrade boy, who has not been identified, was taken to a Billings hospital and listed in critical condition.
It is still unclear which boy was driving the 2004 Yamaha Grizzly four-wheeler.
The accident occurred about 33 miles north of West Yellowstone, near Taylor's Fork. Layton said the section of road is a straight-away and he didn't know all the details surrounding the wreck.
"It's just an unfortunate and tragic accident," Layton said.
No one at the Montana Highway Patrol was available to comment on the crash investigation Tuesday.
Layton did say both boys were wearing helmets at the time of the wreck.
The Crown Victoria's 54-year-old male driver, 13-year-old female passenger and 50-year-old female passenger were uninjured in the crash. All three were wearing seat belts.
