I cant find anyone to groom a large breed dog. any suggestions? and they act like youre asking for a kidney if you take them to the vet for one here. The way it pissed them off, I thought NO WAY IN HELL am I walkin off and leaving my dog here. hmmm might be something for someone to look into alot of ppl have large dogs around here and we love our big boys and girls just as much as the tiny owners do theirs!

Ooh la la doggy spa is fantastic.. she does a great job on my pekingnese and she does my mother's big dog. She will even come and pick my mom's big dog up and bring her back home when she is finished!! my dog is a lil on the crazy side and this is the only place i have been able to take her because the vet wanted to sedate her to cut her hair :(

I used to work for a local animal hospital, and I think the main problem isn't the size of the dog, but the condition that the dog is in to begin with. A large dog that needs grooming, particularly a haircut, can take up to 8 hours in order for it to be done correctly. This is especially true if the dog has long hair and has been kept outside throughout the course of the year and has accumulated mats. Another problem with this is that people aren't willing to pay the price for a large dog groom. When you're working for 8-9 hours on a dog, you can't charge the normal 30 or 40 dollars for a groom. This doesn't even give the veterinarian enough money to pay the employee for his/her time that day, muchless the cost of clippers, blades, shampoo, etc.

To be honest, I don't even think that grooming should be done at animal hospitals. Speaking from personal experience, it does get stressful when there are several sick/boarding animals that need to be tended to, along with many other tasks that the employees are expected to upkeep, not to mention that you have to stop what you're doing all through the day to assist the doctor. The larger the dog, the harder it is to get the job done. I think a professional groomer is definitely the best way to go. This is all they do, so they're able to concentrate on the task at hand, and work more efficiently.

You don't get a grooming license, there is no such thing. Anyone can be a groomer. This *dude* lol is my husband Leonard. I went to school in Atlanta paid for by Pet smart and have been a groomer over 10 years.. I taught Leonard. Hes so great with animals its just a natural calling for him. Dog grooming has a lot of safety factors some people don't realize so you always make sure you know someones experience and knowledge before handing your pet over.
