i am a 15 yr old guy and here's the deal: i was raised by foster parents because my mom died 9 years ago and my dad is in prison for murder and he is an athiest.(his dad, my grndpa died in prison too, for terrible things) i have been going to church and sunday school and really studying myt bible and i have read something that scares me. can anyone help me with these verses?ezekiel 18:20 and exodus 20:5:i talked to some people at church and they didnt help much. exodus says that god will "visit the iniquity of the fathers on their children for 4 generations" which means i will have to pay for what they did when i die. ezekiel 20:5 says i wont. so my question is, which one is it? you cant say exodus is wrong because nothing is wrong in the bible and it says very plainly that i am gonna pay for what they did.

Jeremiah 31:29
In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge.
Deuteronomy 24:16
Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.
Job 21:19
[It is said,]'God stores up a man's punishment for his sons.' Let him repay the man himself, so that he will know it!
Lamentations 5:7
Our fathers sinned and are no more, and we bear their punishment.

those don't help me much. those seem like direct contradictions in the bible and my preacher says there are no contradictions....but there they are in black and white.

God doesn't hold you a prisoner. If you are worried about the 'Sins Of Your Fathers' being visited upon you... you're wrong! When you accepted Jesus Christ into your heart.... it broke the chains of Satan.
You have Satan, Demons telling you this. You are (scared to death) God isn't the God of Fear. Satan is.
Quit worrying about what you father and his before him did.
Quit being held hostage by the fear of Satan. That's his job..... to do what he is doing to you right now.
Always talk to God and pray through Jesus Christ.
If i was 15 years old and people in my Church wouldn't help me understand these things.... i would find another Church.
Go to another Pastor or good Christian and let them get this junk out of your head by showing you the truth.
Even Hitler could of been saved if he called on the name of the Lord.
Satan has you right where he wants you. Don't give in to his lies and doubts.
Again, find another Pastor to talk to! Good-Luck!

Jesus died on the cross so thay our sins would no longer be held against us. we are no longer under the law of the old testament but under the blood of Christ so that we will not pay the price of sins done by anyone but our own sin which is forgiven when you take Jesus as your saviour.

Bless your sweet heart, when you stand before the Lord, you will answer for YOUR sins and no one else's. If you ask Jesus to come into your heart and forgive you for your own personal sins, he will do it. Your sins will be washed away FOREVER, never to be remembered again by the Lord.
When the Bible talks about the sins of the father being visited upon the sons, it's talking about how you have suffered for what your dad did, for example. The fact that you grew up in a foster home and didn't have your earthly dad to guide you and be with you, that was a direct result of his sin that affected YOU. It doesn't mean you'll PAY for his sins, just that his bad choices will and have affected you. I am praying for you, sweetheart.

You are only accountable for your sins. You can only control where your soul goes after this life. If you accept Jesus and profess yourself as a Christian, live for god, and study his word you then will belong to Jesus. The devil will tell you that you are not saved. I just want you to tell that devil to get behind you in the name of Jesus! The devil wants to take you down with him and all other sinners, but you just profess Jesus as your savior and you are his! Im praying for you!! God bless you!

You have misunderstood the passage in Exodus. It doesn't say you will have to pay for what they did >>>when you die<<<. Still yet, I don't think anyone would deny that children often suffer for the sins of their parents. Often times the fear of something happening to their children causes parents to refrain from crime or sin. That being said, if you have been born again you will go to heaven when you die. You must examine yourself and be sure that you are trusting the finished work of Jesus on the cross for your salvation. If you are then you should not be afraid.
