In difficult economic times, the last thing that should be done is to make it more difficult for families to send their kids to college. I'm sure there are many other areas the budget could be cut other than our children's educations. How about cutting the benefits doled out for people that refuse to work, refuse to look for work, and prefer to live off the system. They know who they are, but they don't read the paper, they sleep until noon, they go to the emergency room for a headache or a muscle cramp - while those of us that work for a living pay for it. Cutting back on education funding would be disasterous.

i think they should up the requirements and give you at least a year to decide what happens. also stop raising tuition so much and we wouldn't have this problem.

let's lay off one of the 14 vice presidents with their 6 figure salaries and see if that helps too... also fire locksley.

If you want to pay less on education, why not go after the textbook comapanies that charge 200 bucks for a 35 dollar text book and why not lower the wages of some of these college academics, after all they make over 200 grand a year.

Bingo! The cost of textbooks is astronomical, with the books for some classes changing almost every semester which eliminates the chances of a student selling back the book after completion of a course. Unfortunately, decreasing textbook costs won't help overall school budgets.

If budgets are as tight as they are, continuing to look to increased tuition as a budget balancing tool is exclusionary. When looking for waste, start at the top. The lottery scholarship is a huge help.

I got a buddy over in India who gets me engineering textbooks for about one-tenth the US cost. The publishers actually write the words, "Low price edition, not for US sale", on the cover. Ha, ha, ha. Last one I got was $150 in the bookstore. I got it from India for $15 plus $10 for 5 day shipping.

Funny! The teabagging, ultra-regressive, repugs, whine and cry about the failing US educational system and the "failing" education level of US students. But when it comes to actually doing something about it (and yes, of course it backs money to solve the problem), they whine even louder than ever before.

Odumbo is going to make going to college a freebie. Nobody pays for anything. Didn't you folks know that? Ain't he great? He will just forgive any tuition debts and they will never have to pay them back. We don't need scholarships or jobs for college kids. They will just be freeloaders like the rest of the leeches we have in this country. Free healthcare. Free education. Free EVERYTHING. Mmmm mmmm mmmm, Barak Hussein Obama, mmmm mmmm mmmm.

Everything takes money. The problem is the back of middle class America is being stressed beyond belief. There has to be a way to continue funding financial institutions without adding more debt to parents and kids.

I'm going to respectfully ask that you cease using the term "teabagging".

Okay, I'll cease, but it's just a funny funny word to wave in someones face.

Well, the situation, as I see it is that you have to invest money to make money. Ever hear that before? Rooted in reality, methinks. I agree with the (oops, almost typed the TB-word here) regards the poor state of our educational system. But methinks if you invest in college kids, you stand a good chance of recouping your investment in taxes on the students after they graduate.

It's a funny SOMETHING to wave in someone's face! ;-)

Absolutely, we need to invest in our college kids and helping them to graduate and realize their greatest earning potential in their careers, which translates to taxes. It just seems we look to the wrong places to balance budgets. Taking more from the middle class just isn't working anymore.

I think we're in violent agreement. Thanks for the cease and desist.
