Is the food any good at the Kandela restaurant? What about the little cafe near the VFW? Hungry for something besides fast food!

Yes they have wonderful homemade meals and other items on their menu, definitely a place you wouldn't mind visiting twice a week

THE GRILL
is hit or miss, and is poorly managed. The food is overpriced, for how frugal they are. And they're not very clean. Nor do they seem to care about their restaurant. The location is terrible, the parking is terrible, and they need to replace their signs.

KANDELA'S
USE to be good, but something went wrong. The past two times I've gone in there to eat the food and service has been very disappointing. The rice is usually dry and overdone (edible, but you can make better from a box or can at your house), and the taco meat tastes worse than any school cafeteria beef I've ever had. It's like they opened a can of premade taco meat and served it. The only thing I've found decent every time, is their beef fajitas, and last time they used bad tomatoes. I was up all night vomiting up my dinner.

If I had to put my finger on what the issue is, it's that they've over staffed and can't afford proper ingredients anymore. Every time we walk in there you have to weave in and out of 5+ servers, cooks, busboys. They just stand at the front of the doorway and stare at you. I get wanting to 'Welcome' your customers, but it doesn't work if they group up and gossip the whole shift. It just makes people confused and uncomfortable.

Now, I will say that everyone else in town loves Kandela's so maybe you'll enjoy it. I just don't find it very appealing, so I often order take out if I do decide to eat there.

MARTHA JEAN'S (The place by the VFW)
is HORRENDOUS. Absolutely, hands down, THE WORST place I have EVER eaten. They leave pies (containing milk) out in a lobby display for christ's sake. I ordered take out and they COMPLETELY messed up my order, not to mention that the fries were like a mushy, heavy, greasy, potatoe brick that covered half of my take out tray. The food was just so unbelievably weighed down with grease. It was disgusting. Never in my life have I EVER been served food that terrible. All they would have to do is turn up the heat on their fryers and cook fewer things at a time and the food may have had a chance.

I wrote more about Martha Jeans, because of the terrible experience with them, but my post isn't showing. And I'm not going to rewrite all of it.

Overall, I recommend going to Searcy or Cabot to eat. No where in Beebe is worth the money. You could spend the same, or less, in Cabot or Searcy and get better service and food.

*Another note about KANDELA'S their chips are disgusting. They use to be hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Now they precook them and they're stale and disappointing.

There is a small diner in mcrae southern grill that is opened from breakfast till lunch. They have a great plate lunch and they are only a few minutes down the road. I dont recomend eating at sawbucks either, everything ive had there has been gross. Wed-sun go to ropers, they have delicious food. I only eat chicken dishes at kandelas.

We ate at Martha's once. One plate of food came out with a band-aid in it. We asked the server to take it back and bring us a new plate (this one had not been eaten off of yet, but there had been ketchup added to the plate next to the fries). When the new food came out, there was still ketchup on the plate where they had just dumped the old fries off.
We told the manager (possibly the owner) and he laughed and said "Well at least she was wearing a band-aid!" I really didn't find it amusing, and we have not and will not go back.

The Waffle House is SURPRISINGLY pretty good for a Waffle House. I really don't mind ordering take out from there.

I guess we got a food critic on our hands. Poor person just wanted a good place to eat and I think kandelas papas catfish the grill and ropers are all great places to eat. Sure their prices are a little high but fast food isn't much cheaper you'll spend just as much on gas going to Cabot or searcy as you would on the food in Beebe
